Admin · 27 mins Apologies for the 'radio silence' for a few days. The reason is that last Monday, Jon Hiseman's situation changed radically. He had a a brain haemorrhage... an absolute emergency situation with the crash team involved. A second brain surgery was carried out to remove a large blood clot from the left “good” side of the brain . He was returned to Intensive Care and (as I understand it) put into a coma. A CT scan was carried out, which fortunately showed no damage to his brain. He remains in a coma while his team of doctors, surgeons and neuro specialists monitor his condition and decide their next move. I have no other details at the moment, but will post updates as and when I get more information. I'd just like to add this:
"Hope springs eternal in the human breast." So said Alexander Pope, whose dictum is still as profound as it is poetic. Hope is a powerful life force which enables us to face and overcome challenges. The belief one holds during difficult circumstances that things will get better. but then only afterwards found this, from sometime ago now:
explaining why he needed a 1st neurosurgery to start off with (as if
that wasn't bad enough news in itself at the time)!
Let's hope for better news soon though!

What a hard time for him and family. Huge figure in jazzrock and prog, I've been a big fan since hearing Electric Savage way back when. My very best wishes to him. |

I'll add my sincere wishes for a speedy recovery. Met him many years ago when he was playing jazz rock in his wife, Barbara's band and he was a true gent.

didn't you know that she suffers from Parkinson's disease? she has to be tied to a chair during concerts, else she would fall out of it. standing no longer is an option for her

Of course I ache for John - and Barbara - (met both after a gig some 15 years ago), but I'm not sure a recovery is suitable or "wishable" if it's just going for Jon to end up in a heavy dependency state like Barbara is already in. I mean, with the "progress" of modern medecine, I can't help but feeling real frustration at the therapeutic obstinacy that seems to prevail these days. I prefer the dignity of a short exit, instead of gaining "stolen" days at the cost of social welfare Jon, Barb, Dick, Dave, Clem and everyone else, thanks for the music |

Hi All, I'm a newbie & have specifically registered to respond to this feed. I don't wish to upset previous contributors but would like to provide a little more accurate information concerning the health of Jon & Barbara. Barbara Thompson was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease in 1997, the same year that she received an MBE for her services to music (http://www.temple-music.com/project/barbara-thompson-playing-against-time/). Barbara played with Colosseum until their farewell performance on 28 February, 2015. Although her mobility was compromised by Parkinson's, she was not tied to a chair during performances. She had been supported by a suitable height chair in order to reduce the demand on her body throughout any performance. Maximum info on Jon's health here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/190791594273657/

"tied" is perhaps the wrong expression, but she was definitely strapped into a chair. there are several videos on youtube where you can clearly see it

I am so sorry to hear he has passed away. I have been an avid admirer of his music in Colosseum and Colosseum 2 for the last 30 years of my life, and am so greatful for it's existence, well words cannot properly convey. I don't think he ever toured in my native Canada, so the closest thing to me seeing him live is several really great Colosseum dvds I have and cherish.
May your glorious music live on forever, Jon Hiseman!

nice words Doug. I treasure the memory of seeing Jon , Barbara and the rest of the guys at the tiny Swindon Art Centre over 15 years ago. Easily one of the best gigs I've ever seen ( Only Kansas topped it) and a great privilege to be there with about 100 other people. RIP.
