Topic: Your favourite of my 2017 purchases Posted: December 14 2017 at 00:56 |
I have a feeling I did this here last year. I tried it on another forum and most there had never heard of these, so surely PA is the better place for this sort of poll, where prog rules more than metal.
These are the 2017 releases I've purchased this year. Of these choices, which is your favourite?

Grimspound, which will top my list in a year that has seen mostly excellent Symphonic Prog.

I've enjoyed all of these albums, but Grimspound is my favorite and has gotten the most spins from me.

I voted for Grimspound although there were two LP's I ranked ahead of it this year: Wobbler and Discipline.
I also ranked The Tangent in my Top 10.
2017 was a great year.

It's between Sight of Day and Grimspound, both of which are magnificent albums.
I'll go for Sight of Day, because it represents a return to form for Mostly Autumn after the fairly mediocre Dressed in Voices.

Finding an unwrapped, remastered CD last summer of Wishbone Ash's Argus at my favorite West L.A. used record store. Good stuff, Maynard.

I'll vote for The Big Dream, though all are very good albums.

A nice selection - I went for Grimspound, but thought The Second Brightest Star was a damn fine companion piece. I enjoyed the Big Dream too - although maybe just a touch below the standard of Please Come Home a year or two earlier. Still trying to get to grips with To the Bone - and avoiding the hyped argument from either side that it is a work of eclectic genius, or others who see it as a pop-orientated betrayal to prog - it is neither!!! but it is not as good as his last 2.5 albums either IMHO.

Grimspound for me. There's also a bit I like about the raw quality of The Second Brightest Star as well. Also I'm a great fan of the new Steven Wilson album as well, although I concede a few people may not like the pop sensibilities of the album.
