It is to me quite astonishing how overlooked the contribution to modern guitar sound and pressence the playing of Stephen Carpenter of Deftones, to me seems to be quite overlooked.
Not only does he puts hes soul into both the mellow atmospherric stuff butt the shugging and churring maelstorm he manages to produce is quite and always have been a template to how metal guitar should sound.
Also hes contiuned evolution from 6 to 7 and to 8th strimg guitars and in-corporation of such guitars and in a natural progression and inclusion.

Stephen Carpenter is a guitarist whom respect is mightly deserved.
