Topic: Queen Albums - Best To Worst Posted: January 09 2017 at 11:52 |
As a big fan of diversity, unique melodies and untrivial guitar solos (so, certainly, not a big fan of metal), I don't dislike Queen. And the winners are: 1. A night at the opera 2. Sheer heart attack 3. Innuendo 4. II 5. Made in heaven 6. News of the world 7. A day at the races 8. I 9. Jazz 10. Hot space 11. A kind of magic 12. The works 13. The game 14. The miracle What I agree with my hands upon is that The Miracle was definitely the worst one.

It's been awhile since I've listened to some of these, and my order would likely change a bit if I were to listen to them all again right now with the purpose of ranking them in mind, but by memory, my order would probably go something like this:
Jazz A Night at the Opera A Day at the Races Queen (I) Sheer Heart Attack The Miracle News of the World Innuendo The Game Queen II The Works Made in Heaven Hot Space A Kind of Magic
I'm a big Queen fan, by the way. Everything would get a 10/10 through at least Innuendo, and even A Kind of Magic I like quite a bit.

Queen II Queen I A Day at the Races Sheer Heart Attack News of the World Innuendo Miracle A Night at the Opera The Works Jazz Flash Gordon Made in Heaven A Kind of Magic The Game Hot Space
Never understood the hate for their post-The Game albums. Never understood the hate for the discofunk of Hot Space. I kinda understand why people think The Works and Kind of Magic lack coherency. They sound like best-of albums. But if the two were combined, and some songs were left out, it would've been a great hardrock album. Miracle and Innuendo are two of the best hardrock albums I grew up with. Really, really stellar production and great songs.
Never understood the hate for Flash Gordon either. Great spacerock album. Queen just showed they could do anything.
I like The Game the least, mainly because it's so short. Also Hot Space is at the bottom of the list. Not because it's bad, but because the rest is so much better. No Queen album in the universe is bad to me.

No Queen album is bad or average - I agree (Cosmos is not Queen, I mean). Hot Space is really excellent, except for the first track. However, to me there are two hard rock hits in Miracle, the rest is mediocre pop cheese. "I want it all" and "Was it all worth it" are timeless. But two mid-size songs cannot save the whole LP.

Wow. Queen were excellent pop artists. And there's more than just 2 hardrock songs on Miracle. Breathru and the opening duo. And then there's the wonderous r&b/soul/calypso of My Baby Does Me and Rain Must Fall. And the proggish Scandal and the titletrack. The only song that I find kinda annoying sometimes is Invisible Man, but that's still a stellar song. Love the bassriff and the guitarsolo.
Maybe I'm just a sucker for pop. But I love weird music aswell. Maybe I just like all kinds of music. Maybe that's why Queen is so dear to me. They actually pulled off every genre in the book. Except Jazz and reggae, but they named a record Jazz, so that's a point.

I am not a musician myself, I don't hear, I can't hear notes, bass playing, etc. It explains my comprehension of musical works. I bought Queen's albums one by one, once in two-three months, usually. The Miracle was one of the last ones. I thought it would be grandiose. I was disappointed.

hmmm strange question in a weird sort of way due to don't totally understanding it! there aren't many groups whom record albums to which all will be perfect one or two album fillers on. I`ll need to give this some serious thinking!!!!

"Made in heaven" was perhaps not very inventive, not very progressive - yet it was really versatile Queen-style. The songs while being mainly ballads, do not sound like the ones on JT's Too Old. Every ballad is an individuality here . The Cosmos Rocks, of course, sucks, then: not an average banal hard-rock recording, some twists and smartees - but it is cosmos distances far away downwards from anything Queen created before.

I don't think Hot Space is their worst album ever. I think that's "A Kind Of Magic" hands down. Take away the singles and what are you left with?...
I think Innuendo is my favourite album. I bought it at the time. No wait, it's Sheer Heart Attack. I loved Queen II more than A Night.. or A Day... And I really wish I had grown up with Jazz and not News Of The World. I stopped listening when Freddie died and even then haven't heard Made In Heaven.
EDIT: ARGH! How amazing is "Flash"?!! That's another reason "A Kind Of Magic" is my hated. They could do soundtracks!
