I know nothing about hockey, but just saw the last name in the thread title and thought, oh NO, NOT STEVE HOWE.

Sorry about the hockey guy.

Gordie was before my time, but everybody in Detroit knows who he is/was.  He was Mr. Hockey.  I did have the pleasure of seeing him play one shift in 1997-1998 with the Detroit Vipers. He was 70 at the time and it gave him the distinction of having played in 6 different decades.

While I was too young to see him in his prime I'll never forget seeing him play while he was in his fifties. Not only did he not look out of place but the man impressed me to the point that it was all I could talk about for weeks. My cousin is named after him and I know he was Gretzky's favourite player. He was a guy who was made for playoff hockey with his physical play and freakish talent.
RIP Gordie!

First Ali, then Gordie, who I worshiped as a youth (saw him play at the big old barn called the "Olympia"). My dad told me stories about NY Ranger enforcer Lou Fontinato making the mistake of picking a fight with Gordie. Howe broke his nose and busted his jaw! LOL

P.S. 2016 has absolutely sucked in regards to the loss of the greats.

One of the greats of all time!  The name that made me curious to see what hockey was.  Thanks Gordie
