Hello all! I have a question about the CD releases of Harmonium's En Tournée. An Amazon reviewer stated that the South Korean M2U release was ripped from vinyl, so I sought out instead the Blue Moon version, thinking it had better sound quality. However, it was obviously ripped from vinyl as well, and is the quietest CD I have in my collection; I have to turn the volume all the way up to enjoy it int he car.
Now I'm afraid if I buy the M2U version, it will be the same. Nowhere on the internet can I find a definitive answer to the question, "Which is the official CD release?" I see there is one on a third label, Zone3, but no one has reviewed it. Please advise. Many thanks! Jeff |

Greg Walker at Syn-Phonic recommended the Zone 3 one because it was released in Canada; it is presumably the one that was authorized by the band. By the way, check out this awesome documentary on them, Harmonium en Californie. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KYv7GPuQG1c

I have since discovered the Zone 3 release is the "official" one, and it sounds better than the other one as well.

Hi Jeff--
This is the one of their albums that I don't have, but I appreciate you looking into these versions! I used to shy away from vinyl rips, but I've come to learn that despite the surface noise they are very often my favorite because of the dynamics, warmth, and great spacing, compared to the CD mastering that is often done. And sometimes, such as the L'Heptade G2K CD, it's a vinyl rip that you can barely even hear surface noise. I remember buying the SHM mini version of Il Biglietto Per L'Inferno, and I was shocked that it was a vinyl rip. I almost returned it! I'm so glad I didn't, as it has become my go-to version. But back to Harmonium, quite a wonderful band! I really love the three studio albums, I don't know why I haven't ventured into En Tournee. Thanks for the encouragement! Todd

Please note that there is another live version of L'Heptade in the recent 40th anniv remastered reissue in a private concert as Fiori was 25 on that very date, dating from 77 or 78.
The CD reissue also has the same gig filmed in a DVD, which the vinyl doesn't have. So there are now 4 versions: original studio remastered studio (it does make an audible difference) Live 77/78 En Tournée 80 |
