Hello everyone, y'all seem like a friendly crowd. Anyway here’s my intro... Ever since I was a little toddler, I’ve been fascinated with music. When I made it to 5th grade, I started on the tuba (which is a very fine instrument). In middle school, I developed an interest in rock music (though at that time, I had little knowledge of what "good" (intelligent) music was). In addition to the tuba, I began to take guitar lessons with an instructor by the name of Chris Walczak, who is also the Vocalist for a local progressive rock band called Outlander. He recommended that I try listening to Tool. After I got that first Tool cd (Enima), all of my other music just seemed boring after that. I knew Tool couldn’t be the only band on this god-forsaken rock that played with the complexity Mozart or Bach, so I began to search for more. I came across bands like Opeth, and Dream Theater. In a short while, I became fully immersed in the world of progressive rock/metal. At the same time, I found Tool’s sister band, "A Perfect Circle." What amazes me about Tool and APC is that their singer (Maynard James Keenan) is almost a mirror image of myself in terms of personality and beliefs. In high school (my sophomore year), I (and my Tuba) also began to explore the bizarre world of Jazz. We started a Jazz Fusion/Bebop band last year (again, my sophomore year). We’ve been performing for a while, but we still have no name. I eventually hope to start a band that combines both the elements of progressive metal, and jazz. That’s all, I hope I didn’t bore anyone. |

Excellent! Brass instruments are really under-rated these days - it's always strings that people pay attention to. Our brass band played a jazz version of Tool's "Schizm" (of course being the Tuba player, I got the hard part). How long have you been playing? I'm on my 7th year currently.

Welcome. Great to have Wisconsin and tubas represented here. What kind of fusion or jazz rock bands have you been listening too?
