Topic: Your TOP 10 favorite NON-prog bands? Posted: November 19 2015 at 19:46 |
I'm interested to see which bands people like outside of prog, my favorites are:
1-Queen 2-Iron Maiden 3-Moody Blues 4-Red Hot Chili Peppers 5-The Beatles 6-Alice Cooper 7-The Eagles 8-U2 9-Bon Jovi 10-Bee Gees
11-Deep Purple 12-Keane 13-Led Zeppelin
Yeah, there were supposed to be 10 . Some obviously do have prog influences, especially Moody Blues and Queen (and maybe Maiden).

I shook my head and smiled a whisper knowing all about the place

If I stick to the bands (excluding solo artists that would be a whole lot easier to list) that are not found - and would never be accepted - on PA database (which really narrows things down heavily!), I'd pick for example Dire Straits (was my first favourite as a kid), Nits, ... ... well, I enjoy also for example The Police, U2, The Eagles, Tears For Fears and Simple Minds, but they are not so big favourites for me. Just to reach ten, let's add ABBA , Coldplay and Belle & Sebastian. This funny list is primarily showing how strongly prog-oriented my rock taste is! (Had to leave bands such as Talk Talk, Beatles, Doors and Roxy Music out because they are in the Archives.)

it seems to me that everyone's list goes all over the place. I've found the choices listed both interesting and surprising.

Sufjan, Microphones, Modest Mouse, James Brown, and the Painters would make my top twenty definitely.
