Topic: Charisma Keyboards Posted: August 19 2005 at 17:55 |
Anyone remember this sampler released in the very early 70s (prob 1972/3)? It's not in the archives.
I seem to recall it had As Your Mind Flies By by Rare Bird (amazing) and The Fountain of Salamacis (equally so and my first contact with the genius of Genesis). I also seem to remember a fairly revolting VDGG track. Anyone know the full track listing???

"Charisma Keyboards" on a label, I think, named "Charisma". 1974.
This is all I know, sorry. Try googling.

I just went searching my old Charisma LPs, hoping that one of the inner sleeves
might have your unknown advertised - no enjoy. However, I've made a happy
discovery amongst the Capability Brown albums I bought in a radio
station clear out (somewhat worse for wearaudio-wise), one is a signed
copy!! Cheers.

Just found a bit more on it on Google. It was released in April 1974. The other artists are Bo Hansson (and the track was Flight to the Ford from Lord of the Rings, I seem to recall) Robert John Godfrey (of The Enid fame but it doesn't say what track) and The Nice (again, nothing on the track). Any further info much appreciated.
Thanks!

Just checked one web page listed in a thread on the sampler The Rock
Machine Turns YOu On:
http://www.progarchives.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=8262 &KW=rock+machine
which specialises listing compilations with pictures, and nothing
there. And buried somewhere in Progarchives is a complete Charisma
Records Catalogue No list - but the local search engine doesn't help.

I have the pre-recorded cassette version, ZCCAS 5. It must have been released around 1974-75, as the copyright date on the last track is 1974.
Track listing is:
Side 1
- America, 2nd Amendment by The Nice
- As your mind flies by by Rare Bird
- Flight to the ford by Bo Hansson
Side 2
- White Hammer by Van Der Graaf Generator
- The fountain of Salmacis by Genesis
- Mountains by Robert John Godfrey
The Rare Bird track is the full 10+ minute version, a wonderful piece.

Thanks, Easy Living! That's what I wanted
It's the Rare Bird track I really actually want - this is the only time I've found the full extended As Your Mind Flies By, possibly the finest example of twin keyboard interplay ever. I don't have the RJG track either and VDGG are one of my least favourite bands, but the rest I have.
