The Beatles had George Martin. The Stones had some stoned guy (I guess) , but who was the unofficial 6th member of Yes?
Eddy Offord? One the Buggles guys? One of Wakeman's sons? Robert Moog? You call it.

Wakeman's Mellotron repairman!
Seriously, I'd say that Roger Dean would have as much of a stake as anyone. Eddie Offord is another good guess.

So, that's none of the other 15 or so musicians who have actually been members of Yes, but the guy who painted some of their album covers. Makes sense.

This is a trick question. Yes is a myth.

Rabin, Kaye, of course Bruford. All three were very significant. Kaye probably deserves it though for being with the band on more records than the other two and being apart of both the 70s and 80s lineup.
EDIT: misread the question. I thought you meant in terms of significance which member is outside of the most stable lineup if you can call it that. Not really sure if Yes gets a sixth member. Genesis definitely had one with Tony Stratton Smith.

Billy Sherwood ??? (........ducks as the poison darts fly in my direction.....)
Seriously, I'd say Roger Dean, as he had a lot to do with the whole presentation and setting of their wondrous stories.......... |

Mr Rickenbacker clearly
Think how many prog bands since have utilised that signature sound. It denoted Yes (and prog) as much as anything. I suppose though the serious answer has to be Roger Dean. Any other bands that were so tightly associated with the artwork as Yes were? I would struggle to think of any. |

According to this http:////progarchy.files.wordpress.com/2014/03/prog-mag-yes-poster-at-9401.jpg the sixth member of Yes was Dave Potts (no, me neither) as the first five were Banks, Squire, Anderson, Bruford and Kaye. He appears to have been in the band for 5 days in place of Bruford.
This appears to be the chap in question - http://www.praying-mantis.com/mantis/davepotts.shtml " I was actually with Yes for about a week. What it was, was they were looking for a drummer and I lived with Jon Anderson. I rehearsed with them for about a week. At the end of the week they had to make a decision about which drummer they kept and Jack Barry tells me that he suggested they keep this drummer called Tony Kelly that used to be with the Koobas." So Dave Potts is the Pete Best of Yes! Edited by chopper - June 03 2015 at 05:08 |

Sounds good to me... even on the Hipgnosis sleeves (Tormato and GFTO), Dean was there via the logo... Offord could be the 7th Yes... Edited by Sean Trane - June 03 2015 at 07:19 |

Interesting, I have a knitted jacket in the same design, if I ever wore sweaters and knew someone who could embroider then I'd consider emulating the sorry chap you speak of but since I don't on either count I'll have to make do with the obligatory t-shirt. Album artwork has always been popular for just this evening I saw a t-shirt for sale in ASDA (UK branch of Walmart) with the Sgt Pepper cover printed all over it. Now few people, if any, would ever consider George Hardie to be the 6th Floyd or Peter Blake the 106th Beatle, so poke fun at me all you like it still won't make any sense. |

^I'm quite sure that this bloke had a sweater, not a jacket. I would have emphasized the distinction had I known that you also had similar attire that made little sense. My apologies.
