Which one should I buy?

I would like to check out Shadowlands, Lex Rex, The Inconsolable Secret, Perelandra or Chronometree

Shadowlands and Inconsolable Secret look promising

The stuff they've put out since Chronomotree has been their best.  In my opinion, their previous material wasn't quite as mature and consistantly melodic.

Chronomotree-A stylistic throwback to 70s style prog.  The tongue in cheek concept is hilarious, although the vocals of Brad Marler can be a bit of an acquired taste.  My personal favorite.

Lex Rex-Glass Hammer finally combines all their influences into a coherent sound that they've held ever since.  I don't think the material is as strong as on Chronomotree, but it is up there.

Shadowlands-The introduction to the opening track is one of the most exciting pieces of music I've heard in the last five years, and the album holds your attention for its entire length.

The Inconsolable Secret-I'm not too familiar with it yet, but its a more varied affair, with almost pure symphonic arrangements standing shoulder to shoulder with guitar and mellotron passages.

I only have Shadowlands and Lex Rex. Of these two, the former is the best IMO. Haven't got The Inconsolable Secret yet, but probably will soon. Good band.

In my view, Perelandra is their best one.   It has a lovely atmosphere and flow, which their later albums seem to lack.

I would warm you that the guy singing on Chronometree may be an acquired taste ...

Personally, I'd go with the following GH albums right off the bat:

Chronometree
Lex Rex
Shadowlands
The Inconsolable Secret

If you're looking for samples for each album, check out the following

I have:

  • Lex Rex  1/2
  • The Inconsolable Secret  (rated this after many listenings)
  • Lex Live (DVD) 1/2

Of the above Lex Rex is the most accessible, with some memorable tracks and great musicianship. If you want to read my review of "Lex Live" here is the url:

IMO a highly underrated band which deserves more respect than it gets!!
