It used to be Evol, but I've come to love Daydream Nation and Dirty probably just as much. I don't think I can choose. Amazing band.

Never listened to them, so I'm trying out Daydream Nation now. What album would you guys (since there's no girls here ![Tongue Tongue](smileys/smiley17.gif) ) recommend for a first-time Youth listener?

Bad Moon Rising, but it's not included in the poll (why no "other" option?) so instead I gave my vote to Evol.

Sorry Stool Man. The exclusion of Bad Moon Rising was an oversight. Great album. But alas, I cannot add to the list now.

Since their's no Experimental Jet Set, I'll have to go with Dirty.

Anything Evol and on is a good starting point– Daydream Nation as good as any. They don't have a bad album though. All of them are worth hearing.

It was Sister for a long time, but now it's Daydream Nation.
Honorable mention to another early one not on the list - "Sonic Death", a really creepy live album that was put together collage-style. Quite lo-fi but that adds to the cavernous atmosphere, like one of those early Swans live albums.

Sister was my favorite when I first discovered SY. For some reason, it's not really one of my favorites anymore. That tends to happen with bands I love. Different albums become favorites at different times.

I couldn't get them all on Steve, but Sonic Death is indeed a good album. The point of my post was that I always felt SY fans changed favorites or had a wide variety when it comes to picking a favorite. But that doesn't answer my question why? ![LOL LOL](smileys/smiley36.gif) Perhaps because they're such a good band!

I guess one of the reasons they were so good is they kept a consistent quality level, yet they went through several distinct phases in their sound - so someone, for example, who grows up a punk fan may be partial to some of the early records, but as he gets older, he gravitates more towards some of the smoother guitar-interplay albums from later on. That's kind of how it's been for me, having started with them at age 15 and now I'm 45 - a good band to grow old with. Not that every album of theirs has blown me away, but the general arc of their career has never really thrown me off the train either.
