There's always been one time or another where an alternative rock band, or something along those lines, crafts a wonderful prog song that is entirely different from the rest of their discography.
Do you guys have any choice picks?

I don't even know what make a song prog or not hahaha, i just enjoys the bands called that more than the others.
But i will try choose some songs for u. That abum is great, by the way. It's a brazilian pop rock band, was very famous around here on the 80's and 90's. They have some songs that i think have a little bit of prog. Their album called "Gessinger, Licks & Maltz" and "Várias Variáveis" have some great songs, with a little bit of prog rock. |

Whoa, i'm surprised that someone knows them here on PA!
The made some great albuns on the 80's and 90's, and some great classics of brazilian music like "Era um garoto, que como eu avama os Beatles e os Rolling Stones", "Terra de Gigantes" e "Infinita Highway". As a fanboy i can't give a precise review about them ahahah

For a few months I've known them and started listening to them. I particularly like the song 'Refrao De Bolero'. It's always got a little ring to it. Also the song 'Banco' from Minuano.

Both are great tracks. Banco is one of my favourites.
They also use a lot of south-brazilian traditional music influences on theyr songs. You can hear it in tracks like "e-storia" and "Pampa no Walkman". Oh, and the lyrics are great, seriously.

Sufjan Stevens' Age of Adz. In the 00s, he was the progenitor of soft indie rock aka Bon Iver, Bright Eyes, Civil Wars, etc. but he's always stood head and shoulders above the rest. In 2011, he released the dark, mental illness-exploring Age of Adz, which incorporated elements of glitch, minimalism, hip-hop, Danny Elfman, and, yes, prog.

Well, Scott Walker for sure is not alt.rock or indie-rock artist, he was a pretty big pop-rock star in 60s actually, but I'd like to recommend his PROG song Epizootics from his fourteenth studio album titled Bish Bosch, released in 2012

Anything from The Faming Lips albums released from 1999 to 2013. It may not be prog exactly but they love Mellotrons, synths and sequencers.

The more I think about it, the band The Pineapple Thief are an alt-rock band dipped in a healthy sauce of Prog. The longer cuts from Tightly Unwound are great examples of stretching out of the confines of a 'regular' song. And also Bruce Soord's knack for penning great, accessible material in odd-metres in general is commendable. Can't wait to get my hands of the Magnolia vinyl.
