Adding that Pelé's mother, Celeste, is still alive and conscious now 100 yo. So sad when a father or mother has to bury a son/daughter be he/she a King or a mere commoner.

RIP Pele. I remember he was really popular when I was a kid (late 70s). Of course in the US we refer to it as soccer whether the rest of the world wants to accept that or not. I mean no disrespect to those who call it football but we already have a football and it would be confusing to have two (or to call our football soccer). ;) Anyway, yes, I knew a woman who died of cancer who was maybe in her late 50s or early 60s or so and her mother who was maybe in her 80s was there at the funeral. I believe her mother died a few years later.

As an adult i am utterly indifferent to football/ soccer, in fact most sport, but as child.. ahh. Pele was something quite mythical along with George Best and Billy Bremner. RIP Pele and your overhead 'bicycle kick'!!

Go to the first (main page) of the progressive ears website. It was mentioned on there and a whole bunch of people have already posted expressing their sadness. It's also mentioned on the HTM facebook page.

Okay, sounds like his friends & family are taking it slow. "I remember there were, perhaps, 60 students in this very large room, and
Dr. West was trying to feel out the class by playing two notes on the
piano and seeing who could name the interval. At one point in the
exercise, a voice shouted out "Dominant seventh… Hendrix!", and it was
Stan [Whittaker]. I made sure I met the skinny guy with long hair, and we became
close friends right away." -- Frank Wyatt, 1973 Rest in Peace, Frank |
