No.

Still Life feels more together.  All the songs have a similar feel to them.  It's more emotional too.  It's all about existentialism.

Godbluff is amazing but it's not quite as good.  Arrow is indeed more visceral and has more punch but it doesn't fit alongside the other tracks quite so well.

Still Life is far more powerful.  It's also less proggy and more minimalist as well.  Mmmm.  I prefer VdGG mostly when they're being less self-indulgent and bombastic.
lolno

Still Life is almost TOO consistent, it stays in the same mood throughout the whole thing and feels scared to take risks. Godbluff goes all out and the result is flawless.

Godbluff is that good. Arrow fits perfectly with the other tracks, letting the insanity sink in with no mercy.

Godbluff is more powerful and more brutal. It's a lot more proggy and more adventurous as well. I prefer VDGG when they don't hold back to emotional pretentiousness.

vrylolno

I too love their bombastic side.  Squid 1/Squid 2/Octopus is the most insane they ever got.  However, they're not consistent enough with that sound.  Godbluff has less emotional and less adventurous tracks.  Still Life is completely consistent.

I love The Sleepwalkers.  I love all the tracks on Godbluff.  It's very close behind Still Life (and I mean very close).  Still Life has hidden emotion.  It doesn't need to be as pretentious.

Besides, the lyrics are also better on Still Life.

Having said that, my favourite VdGG tracks are mostly on other albums.  That proves how great an album Still Life is, 'cause it just that, an album, rather than an album full of amazing individual tracks.
roflmaono

Godbluff is among the most consistent albums you can find. Each of the four songs could be tied together into a single epic if VDGG felt like it. Godbluff is also far more epic and exciting. It puts you in the situations the songs involve, while Still Life just lets you sit and watch. Godbluff is also a better showcase of each member's talents by far.

The emotion in Still Life isn't hidden at all, actually. In fact, it's kind of shoved down your throat, but that's kind of why I like it. Godbluff shoves the fury down your throat, which I still prefer.

The lyrics on Godbluff are more creative, risky, and jaw-dropping than Still Life.

When I think Still Life I think of each individual piece. The album as a whole doesn't work as well. Godbluff on the other hand, yeah, like I said before I frequently see it as a single epic.

Arrow is the best song off Godbluff.  No wait, Scorched Earth

Your full of fail and you know it.

But we both love those albums, so it's not a matter of us disagreeing on them being sh*t.  They're both epic.

I cannot listen to individual tracks from Still Life, I have to listen to the album.

I can, however, listen to The Sleepwalkers on its own.

The Undercover Man and Scorched Earth do have to be played together.  They even play those two together in concert.  Those two fit together beautifully.

Arrow and The Sleepwalkers don't have to be though.

Indeed, I cannot even think of a time they've played Arrow live.  The two gigs I saw them at, they played The Undercover Man, Scorched Earth and The Sleepwalkers

Strangely, they didn't play anything from Still Life. LOL

Actually, that's not strange at all.  It's an album, not an album of single tracks.

Yey, I win.

I'm not as keen on Undercover Man.  It's alright.

After the Flood is still VdGG's awesomest song

There, you just proved you're wrong.

I knew that from the start. You were the one anxious to teach me how wrong I am. Tongue

That's you.

That's also you.

Indeed.

I wonder why...

Then why don't they play the whole thing?

No, I do. Wink

Trisector...eh, it's tough, because I don't like the opener at all, but most of the other tracks are enjoyable enough. I wouldn't call it awesome but it was infinitely better than The Aerosol Grey Machine.

Man-Erg is their best by a long long long way.

Then it's a toss up for me... it changes frequently.

I love Squid 1/Squid 2/Octopus but then I also love Darkness 11/11, Lemmings, The Sleepwalkers and everything off of Still Life.

Actually, I think I'd go for either Pilgrims, Still Life or My Room (Waiting for Wonderland).  La Rossa, for me, is the weakest but then I prefer the Maida Vale version over the album version.  Of course, Childlike Faith at Childhood's End is also epic of course.

Then I'd probably go for Arrow.

VdGG never play whole albums.  Except that one-off performance of Godbluff.

Still Life is too amazing to play all of it live anyhow.  Hammill knows this.

Besides, fans want the over-the-top stuff.  Not the amazing, minimalist, emotional perfection that is Still Life.

Oh and The Aerosol Grey Machine is awesome.  I used to play it a lot more than many of their other albums.
