I love both, but I feel that way about Hot Rats more so than I do Birds of Fire in this case (HR is in my top 5 albums of all time).

Frank Zappa- "Hot Rats"                            6
Mahavishnu Orchestra- "Birds of Fire"     27

My issue is that Hot Rats really doesn't aim a lot, as far as I can see, and so it doesn't achieve anything. It's a well-played album, by all counts, but I don't think it often gets past that. However, Willie The Pimp is a classy song.

Edit: bad words... doesn't achieve a lot emotionally, in my opinion, and I never get the same rush from a cool piece as from an emotional one.

I understand your point there, but it's a constantly magic album for me that is definitely unique. Not that BoF isn't though...

Nonetheless, it looks like Birds of Fire is the winner for this round! I'll get another one started either before I leave right now or (if not that) then later tonight.

Thanks for participating, guys! Clap

Which comes to

Hot Rats

Birds Of Fire takes it, which is a bit of a surprise.

Really like that album (even if I prefer the debut by just a little), and Open Country Joy might hit my top 20.

Despite that I wanted Hot Rats to win, those are exactly my sentiments. Open Country Joy was always a favorite of mine. ClapClapClapClap

We're on the same wavelength today alot more than usual. ConfusedLOL

Between posting here and the SR over the past 20-30 minutes, I've gotten the spam message like 4 times. I was surprised I didn't get it more. LOL

I'm glad Birds of Fire won as well. I would've liked it to be Still Life, but there you go. May I suggest a sub-genre elimination next? If it hasn't been done already...

I have the next round already in mind, but I'm always open to suggestions on any rounds that you guys come up with. I'd be glad to hear it. Big smile

Rush :) Wink

Sorry... the need to avenge Selling England and Court... two of my untouchable six star albums. Though I feel slightly bad about offing Vital Signs.

Word. SEBTP and ITCOTCK are classic albums.

Because I did 10 of the PA sub-genres before, I thought I'd do round 7 continuing the other 10 genres that didn't get counted (besides Indo/Raga).

Series Game #7: PA's Favorite Albums of Sub-Genres Part 2
Tool- "Lateralus"
Dzyan- "Electric Silence"
Sigur Ros- "Agaetis Byrjun"
Jethro Tull- "Thick as a Brick"
Klaus Schulze- "X"
Pain of Salvation- "The Perfect Element Part 1"
Pink Floyd- "Wish You Were Here"
Dun- "Eros"
Wishbone Ash- "Argus"
The Who- "Quadrophenia"
