I did a test last night and the disk queue length was between 1 and 15, with an average of 2, and I'm not 100% sure what that means, but from what I can tell it shouldn't be doing that if it's a 6 month old drive...

Actually 7 uses less RAM than XP unless you have Aero Glass turned on. It's also POSIX compliant and there are many little GUI tweaks. Basically Vista is like Windows 7 beta.
