So now that I'm all...military and stuff, I'm thinking about going to a gym regularly and actually trying to stay in good shape. I'm working towards being ready to deal with the embarrassment of going to a gym and barely being able to lift anything since I've never lifted before in my life, and once I'm ready for that, I'll be good to go. I'm already the height of Thor (according to my comic nerd friends here) so I might as well go for the body build as well.

I support this decision. I'd go to the gym with you but I'm too far away.

Yeah, it'd be a very long trip for one or the other. I get free gym access on post here, and...I THINK I can also get free advice/plan from a personal trainer. I'll have to look into the second one.

Having a personal trainer would be pretty cool. You could have him put you on one of those movie star plans and make you look like Ryan Gosling.

Like I said, I'd go for the workout they had the guy who played Thor do if anything. Basically, he bulked up absurdly for 8 weeks, then went on a cardio heavy workout/slim down diet for 4 to get rid of nearly all fat on his body. I'd have to work up to the first 8 week level before I started the plan, but after that I could totally Thor myself out...except without the long hair or beard.

I would totally do that if I wasn't afraid of asking random people to spot me at the gym. I was going to start a Joe Manganiello workout last year but never did :\

Anyway, you should totally get Thor'd.
I'll probably talk one of my friends into going to gym with me. Even so, I'll still feel strange asking someone to spot for me. I'll also have to ask how to do just about every exercise with correct form.
