Now, I think Babes in Toyland (US) - Fontanelle (1992) THAT'S "rocking ladies" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XON5kVxHBYA&list=PLMxy067kbpQj9az7ivfQ5SRYCucSM6UW_ Something entirely else, I've seen only about half of all these replies, but how come so many of them and so few votes? Anyway, my vote went to Cannonball, as I'm not aquainted with most of the presented songs.

^ David, this is not exactly how these interactive polls work, but you can of course always cast your vote... The idea of these polls is that we listen to the music others propose within the theme decided on by the poll starter, before we vote. It is about exchanging music that others might also like but not know yet. Most of these polls are about non-prog music, but sometimes prog is "tolerated" (limited to lesser known prog acts) or limited only to lesser know prog. These are called "interactive polls" because the participants will, during a first stage, propose up to three (but we do transgress that number, sometimes) tracks that they want to share/make discover to the others. One of these will be "nominated" to make up a final selection that will be dressed up for the poll. In a second stage we will listen to all of these nominations before each participant will vote for three submissions (other than his/her own). Normally, the life cycle of these polls is now two weeks: a first week to put up suggestions, listen to them and for each participant to decide on his her nomination and a second week to listen to all the nominated tracks before voting for three of them. So, this generally takes time for all participants: selecting one's own suggestions, listening to those made by the others (eventually commenting on them...). Furthermore, most of the times, these polls concern non-prog music; since prog is our common denominator, we might also like some of the non-prog suggestions put forward by others. It is a great way to make new musical discoveries! But since it takes (listening-)time and is often concerning non-prog music there are not that many participants. All this explains the many posts but the relatively few votes... Lorenzo (jamesbaldwin) came up with the idea of these interactive polls, even before I joined PA, and the calendar (and other things) is coordinated in the Interactive poll team thread. You can find a history of previous polls in this post. |

^ I do hope you consider joining in one one of these throughout the process David and then later you could be one of the people joining the "team" and making Interactive Polls. This is the most enjoyable regular activity at the forum for me, and I don't regularly participate as fully as some others do. Each time one should read the opening post carefully, because we do get some changes from poll to poll (helps to understand the theme and expectations).
Nice to see "Dagon" did get some votes, by the way, Thank you to those. I had been really hell-bent on doing the Melt-Banana (to me it fit the brief better and I like "noise"), but it is nice to take comments on board. One shouldn't be too swayed by them though, as those don't equal getting votes necessarily. ;) Not that the votes really matter, it's the sharing of music listening to each others choices, and the communal experience that make this special to me, but of course it is nice for one's choices to be appreciated. I certainly use to do it, Logan, and did it this time, as well, but I didn't get the meaning of listening to all the songs before voting - whatever the reason for it.

That's fine, and Cristi's opening post wasn't as ridiculously detailed with rules expectations and explanations as my Interactive Polls. Suitkees explained the process well. There is a learning curve to these often, and while we usually have some basic common factors in terms of expectations in terms of the suggestions and nominations stage followed by the listening to all of the choices stage and vote for three stage, there are differences in the themes and there may be changes to the rules and expectations. I meant if one participates in the whole process (suggestions/nominations and listening and voting) and even if one knows how they usually operate, following the guidelines of the original post can be a bit of a challenge. But I make it sound harder than it is. If there are questions, one can always ask while the poll process is going on. Often clarifications have been needed and I've changed my rules slightly depending on feedback in my polls. Here is how I wrote up one of my original posts for one of these: Interactive Duos Poll: Heaven-Sent and Hell-Bent Suggesting you may wish to join in is selfish of me, because I would just love to eventually see your Interactive Poll. Love to see more involvement in people making those. Impractical as it is, I rather wish every active forum member would make at least one and I wish they rolled around faster. I love topics where we actually check each other's music likes out and people will comment on those and involve discussion. With so many topics it feels like each post is an island unto itself, which has become more common in discussion forums over the years I find (less discussions period and less interactivity generally). Speaking of interactivity, sorry for not participating in that topic of yours before. I stopped nicotine not that long ago, which is super stressful and makes decision-making harder. I was going to take long break from the forum to deal with the withdrawal. Edited by Logan - November 13 2021 at 07:49 |
