Andrea, if you start looking through my closets, you will find many a skeletons

Actually I wasn't looking for any skeleton... I was just trying to review some of my Church albums without repeat what other reviewers wrote before... I started writing reviews on this site just trying to improve my English and it's still a hard task for me... I do not dare to criticize you Hugues, though in this case I'm sure that you can do better!

Bye!

I was only kidding here

and as I say, if you search for them, you WILL find some more! These comes from a time when the review pages were largely empty, and anything (anything?) was better than nothing.

and then the guidelines changed a few times (first to 50 words rules , then some more.....)

let's just stay above the moral melee
prefer the sink to the gutter
keep our sand-castle virtues
content to be a doer
as well as a thinker,
prefer lifting our pen
rather than un-sheath our sword

How do we know he didn't write the original too?

I've actually e-mailed the original to ask him.

Well, if he wrote the original then why didn't he use the same name? In fact, there's no other review made by reviewer "cedricbixlar", this name was used only for this purpose.

IMO, someone, probably a forum member, found that review and solved to send it, using also a different name and/or IP, in order not be identified.

Why would he have to use the same name? There could be many reasons why he wouldn't.

Ok, let's wait if there will be some answer from Dr. David Thorpe confirming that he is also 'cedricbixlar'.

TULIPE NOIRE, LA "Shattered Image "
Review (Permanent link) by Èãîðü

5 stars   Yes, it is poorly produced. Yes, it has some similarities to Marillion's "Misplaced Childhood". Yes, sometimes it is even sounds as a clone. Yes, there are thousands of much better made albums.

But sorry, I give 'em 5 stars - because I like this album and I don't want to explain why!!!

Shattered Ego and Scent of Spring just blow me away...

Yes, on the other hand, the review is helpful. I for one certainly won't buy the album now that I've read this.

I saw "La Tulipe Noire" review during lunch, at work and the reference to Marillion's could save the review. Now, with more time, I checked other reviews and saw that this comparison was made by other reviewers; he added no novelty.

To be dealt with... and thanks pals.

SA writers usually don't spam other sites with their articles...

Some TMV hater stumbled over this site and decided to post the review he saw on SA to piss off fans. Simple as that IMO

Not recently, it was before you became a mod. (I have links to the pages of this thread where they appeared in the first post on this page)

They were funnier, ant they were original

I remember now the SEBTP review... very funny really.

I believe it is preserved here for the future generations.

While writting today a Spectral Mornings review, I found this oldie, I don't believe it's disrespectful or abusive, but I can swear the guy never understood tha stars system:

Quote STEVE HACKETT Spectral Mornings
Review (Permanent link) by Carnival Nine @ 6:07:55 PM EST, 4/21/2005

2 stars  —  This is definitely Hackett's second best album, no contest. The album is almost as good as ' Voyage of the Acolyte'. It is well structured and the songs are perfectly positioned to cement this fine prog offering.

The opener is bright and positive sounding, and depsite its slightly cheesy begginings, ends up with Hackett showing off his true talents as a lead guitarist. There are 2 problems with this album. Firstly, the vocals could be stronger at times though fortunately much of the album is instrumental. Secondly, Hackett seems to love experimenting with styles and doesn't always please all tastes. The George Formby style Ballad of the Disappearing Man leaves me cringing and Tigermoth and The Red Flower etc do very little for me.

Finally comes what is probably the most 'famous' piece on the album, the title track, "Spectral Mornings". A nice instrumental with tremendous and melodious guitar work from the Axemeister. It is absolutely essential listening for fans of Hackett's Genesis-era work.An excellent ending to a classic album.

Maybe too late to mail him, but the review is absolutely incoherent with two stars, and takes the average down.
