I quite enjoy 2009 to be honest (and sober, I want to be, this headache is terrible). There's just one big bad thing, I'm not able to choose one to be my favourite. What's the best after all, everyone's always naming few, not just one.
I really think Addicted is the AOTY. Riverside and MotW were decent, but absurdly overrated. PA will never give that album AOTY over the other releases though. Townsend gets no credit for anything here and everyone on this site clings to ridiculous nostalgia ie: the new Magma album.

Its quite funny to see someone talking about overated albums when they have Fear of a Blank Planet as their avatar!

And Devin Townsend has quite a strong following on here.

FoaBP is like a 4.14. If anything it is grossly underrated.
Thats a joke right, FoaBP is one of the most grossly overated albums I've ever come across, but then there's the cavet, I!

Before you make sweeping statements attacking everybody, learn to respect their opinions first.

So by stating people on this site cling to nostalgia I'm now attacking them. That is somewhat ridiculous.

TIME OUT.

I think this has gone as far OT as it needs. Stern Smile

Indeed Dean, I was about to say it myself, but forum problems prevented me from doing so.

We all have our preferences and expectations. Being tolerant to others, even those whose arguments may be misconfused as accusation / offense (or it  is actually offensive way of talking) is important thing, let's stick with it.

Flame war always ends badly.

To the topic, next step in this list would be adding approximate dates to them. I did my part, harmonium.ro did his, all of us contributed with something (as I said, I know I'm repeating myself), but the question is, can somebody add dates ?

From their homepage:

"The follow-up to 2005's "This Godless Endeavor" is tentatively due in early 2010 via Century Media Records."

it looks good.

So except going offtopic a little bit few days ago, is there something new that we can include ?

I'm sorry if this one is deemed too speculative as its release date is concerned, but Clive Nolan has stated (on the Arena website) that the next Arena album will be titled The Tinder Box. Since everything Arena has done so far has ranged from very good to masterpiece, my expectations are quite high!

Indeed, this sounds quite promising:

Quote I can tell you that the next album will be pretty dark (no surprises there!), and deals with some awkward themes.

You want something exclusive?...ok..... The next Arena album will be called....

The Tinder Box

And I think that we can expect it in 2010, maybe 2011.

Good one

So a few people said Dream Theater. A live album? There is no way they'll have another studio right?

Indeed, I also don't think so. They usually take 2-3 years to make a album, so in 2011 perhaps will be new studio album. But live one would be good.

Rush ? I heard someone saying this magical name :-)

Fish is releasing a new album, A Feast Of Consequences.

From his website:

"A Feast of Consequences" will take on a lot of inspiration from the voyages on the last tour, late night conversations and the images I brought back from Vietnam.
I'd like to try and link the album and the novel together somehow as the relationship between the themes is strong.
Musically I plan a far more diverse range of instrumentation than on "13th Star" and my meeting on Sunday with Bassekou Kouyate was perhaps more Fellini orientated than a passing coincidence.
It's a long way off till the meniscus on the bucket of inspiration breaks and I have the patience this year to wait it out and deal with it in a far more organised and disciplined manner than in 2007 when events clouded some judgements and my time was hijacked in a storm of emotional fallout.
I know for certain it won't be a "heartbreak" album and I know it will be an "angry" album to some degree.
As far as co writers go I already have some ideas and a lot of options which could prove really interesting but that will all come together when it's meant to. ;-)

Its expected to be out by next year, no dates though.

Notice That Mike Portnoy has announced on their website that there will be no live dates of DT in US, so I doubt they bring out a new live DVD next year... Transatlantic will have a formal tour in both Europe and US so it's likely they will launch a DVD... they even going to record a new intrumental song for Gods of War, a videogame... I leave you the link if you want to read the complete story...

How about an upbeat Porcupine Tree album?

Angst and nihilism is becoming a cliché.

Wilson needs to find some indian guru and see the light, OK?

There's always a new TFK album. The first thing Roine does before they start recording is email or text the label a release date. Wink
