I also think that the US have a chance against the Dutch on Saturday. I know I will be watching!

Hi, If the USA defense continues its work ... 3 games, only one goal ... I think we might have a game ... but I hope that Pulisic is in one piece, and that the USA gets a wee bit more clinical ... they peppered Iran in the first half, and likely could/should have scored one more ... but Iran held up, as we went wide or high. I am not sure I can handle sitting and watching the USA-Netherlands game ... my stomach was already all over the place this morning with the Iran game!

Everyone was a chance in a one off game but they'll have to play better

Hi,
Can't believe Mexico blew this up ... and I think their rule to not use players that play outside Mexico is going to bite them again. It has gotten more open in recent years, but they clearly left behind 2 folks that are/were excellent finishers and should have been there. Folks are blaming Tata Martino, but I think the Mexican Federation with its ignorance about the International game, is the problem. It's a financial thing ... if these players don't make it "great" in Europe, they won't have to pay them mega wages ... the whole thing is so obvious it's pathetic, but in the end, it hurts the quality of the players, and then they cry they lost to Canada and the USA ... they deserve to lose, and will continue to lose as both Canada and the USA get stronger! France/Brazil ... looks good right now, but if France plays doll house in a game like they did against Tunisia, they won't last a half against Brazil!

I know a good number of Poles and have some sympathies for their team, but was very annoyed (as were probably many Poles) by their approach here. I ended up hoping that either Mexico or Argentina would score another, and actually it didn't even seem particularly rational to me to try to defend a 0-2 when another goal for Mexico in the other game could eliminate them without Poland themselves being able to do anything about that. It really bugs me that this worked out in the end for them.

For me Argentina are still strongly in the mix. I'd probably even stick to them as my favourites for winning, even though the other three have a good chance as well. Given the last two tournaments, England should be on people's radar as well (although I don't really believe they can compete with the absolute best).

I think this is erroneous as Raul Jimenez plays for my club Wolves although had been sent back to Mexico as supposedly 'unfit' and allowed to work on his recuperation at home. Wolves were very unhappy that Mexico included him in their squad although unofficially will be pleased with the money they are getting for him from FIFA as well as Hwang Hee Chan and the 3 Portugese players out there.

quite likely, Brazil are using the negative tactics that go against their football history and instinct but could well bring them another world cup. France have the ability to rip teams apart with their pace and are solid defensively. For me England have a chance and will likely play France in the Q-finals (assuming both teams progress) . Southgate could employ a 3 at the back to try and 'de-fang' France's weapons so to speak. Germany were awesome in the final 20-30 minutes of the Spain game. If they keep that going then they have a chance. Of course we can't rule out Argentina either. Dark horses are Netherlands. Not fancied at all and under no pressure but they have arguably the best defender in the world in Van Dyke and some decent weapons up front. Belgium have been terrible , partly due to Martinez arrogance and not playing Trossard up front and centre where he has been superb for Brighton this season. Still not out of it yet!

Hi, It was a major issue a while back. It's less so now, but the issue is the local Mexican businessmen (that own Mexican soccer!!!) are afraid that the cost for the players will rise too much! It has been an issue for some time, and the number of players that are allowed outside seems to be very limited. Tata's choices might be an issue, but I bet that another lesser team will pick him up ASAP and bring that team to the next WC and beat Mexico ... that would be a story and movie script! I don't know how to include Vela and Chicharito in their team, but at least one of them would have been important, specially as Vela has a lethal left foot, and can hit from distance. Chich is another story, though he is likely one of the best poachers in the game, but something that an organized team would have issues with ... him all over the place. Where do you pass? Try over there somewhere kind of thing!

I must say I enjoyed the Croatia-Belgium match despite the 0-0 result. Belgium have disappointed big time in their two earlier games but gave us some great entertainment here with all those missed chances. It's rather incredible that none of them went in.

...and out are the Germans. Pretty dramatic this, of course that's what I love football for, only it could've ended in a different way. Today at least Germany did their part of the job, even if in a bit shaky fashion. I thought we have to hope for Spain to help us, in the end it was Germany who helped Spain. Would've been too funny and bizarre had Costa Rica won as well.

Hi, What was weird was watching a statue of some kind standing around, and not scoring. I think the idea was to place the statue there in the middle to add confusion, and all it got? No scores! I like the idea of new teams from different places, FINALLY get a chance. The game has been controlled by "stars" for too long, and with the media work and the small desk laptops, many teams can have access to material that shows what the tendencies are for the bigger teams that have all the bits and pieces ... and it is showing well. And some of the bigger names all of a sudden look rather normal, although some seem to always manage to get it going ... like Messi ... he may miss here and there but the next minute he is more dangerous than before! I wouldn't want to take anything away from Ronaldo, but I'm not sure that he will make the difference for Portugal as some others might in it. I'm thinking that any team relying on one player, is probably not going to go on after the next game ... unless that player goes nuts and scores and sets up assists ... and only Messi is capable of that ... Ronaldo does not do assists, Lewi is not exactly a good assist person, Mbappe could be but he is not there to assist anyone, Kane is double marked and England is not doing the long pass to the box for his benefit ... and that leaves Brazil ... without Neymar, and all of a sudden finding out they don't need him!
