Very smooth and uncluttered music. I personally think that this album's versions of Garota, Samba Di Uma Nota So and Aquas De Marco are among the best, if not the best. If you are not bothered by her carioca accent.

Now, enter Elis Regina with Verve Jazz Masters 13. I couldn't find the whole album on Youtube, but on Amazon you can get second-hand polycarbonate for as low as $0.01 + shipping.  The lesser known songs that I like: Vivo Sonhando (instrumental), Chovendo Na Roseira and Triste.
Thanks! Such beautiful music Approve
I'm absolutely not bothered with her accent, so much better than listening to English singers butcher the portuguese language LOL Of course, I make mistakes on my English writing, but it's not like I'm immortalising it on a song Tongue

I was a fan of the Yardbirds but Clapton was long gone when I got into the band.
I caught up with him when I got into British blues and picked up the John Mayall album.
He's back into the blues on the last few CDs I have bought and seems to be slightly obsessed
with Robert Johnson.
Someone recently gave me a copy of his autobiography simply called Clapton.
I'm about a third into it and it is a very good read.

Clapton - great guitarist, somewhat bland songwriter for my taste. Sorry, don't mean to offend.....

^ Yea he is very much into the blues actually the past 10yrs or so, really always has been a blues guy. But now I think he wants to finish his career by bringing much attention to the blues and those long forgotten artists like Johnson, Muddy Waters.....Which is cool because so many today have no clue who they are and what they did to music.....but they sure know who One Direction, Taylor Swift are.....Thumbs Down

^ this is very true. I loved his work in Cream, and what he did on Roger Waters' Pros And Cons album is nothing less than fabulous. I feel sorry for him and the dilemma with his son. That song Tears From Heaven is moving, though doesn't offer the listener a show of guitar virtuosity, not that it's meant to. When folks mention Clapton, I hear blistering guitars, not shooting sheriffs or the laying down of Sally........

From The Cradle goes back to 1994 but the song Five Long Years has some hot blues guitar solos.
The double CD called Eric Clapton Blues from 1999 has a studio disc with fifteen songs and a live disc with ten songs.
Then there's Sessions For Robert J from 2004. This is a great package with a CD and DVD.
The DVD has four sessions recorded live in a studio with additional musicians and a bonus session that includes an interview with Clapton. He talks about how Robert Johnson supposedly sold his soul at the crossroads and talks about Johnson's guitar playing style.
He basically says that it's impossible for one guitarist to play Johnson's style correctly and that he can't even do it without another guitarist playing along.

It Might Get Loud was an interesting documentary but I wish the segment with Page, The Edge and White jamming together had been longer.
And yes, Jimmy has a very impressive collection of music.

Truth be told, I would like to see a similar documentary with Page, Beck and Clapton. Maybe they could each discuss their careers after the Yardbirds and then end with a jam session.

IMGL was excellent, I agree. The other one that is also good is the SoundCity Studios documentary by Dave Grohl, the lost art of recording live in a studio and the emotion and energy that is created on tape by doing it that way.

I recently watched another good music related documentary on PBS about the early years of Muscle Shoals.
There was some great footage and pictures of artists like Aretha Franklin, Wilson Pickett, Arthur Alexander and several more.
There were also some interesting stories about the session musicians.

That other video is very nice too, there were some details I didn't know about, thanks for sharing Smile

Not sure if it is the same one but there is one simply called Muscle Shoals, which is about Rick Hall who founded the famous FAME Recording Studios. Tells of the beginnings and all the artists that he worked with and recorded and the "sound" that these artists came looking for in little ole Muscle Shoals.....It's an amazing documentary, story and sound track, we have it on DVD.

FAME helped shape and mold the sound that we know now from rock, country, pop, soul, R&B and blues.....It truly is in the water there.....It's close to my heart as we lived in Florence, Alabama which is next to Muscle Shoals, I used to work in Muscle Shoals.

Everyday to work I used to drive by the other studio formed by FAME session musicians called Muscle Shoals Studios on Jackson Hwy

In early 70's a new studio was built and still exists as a active recording studio, this one above, the original, is protected by historical society and still does a recording on occasion. Also FAME still does recording sessions......

Highly recommended to all to see this documentary

I decided yesterday to listen to Animals, which is a rare occasion now since I over played it not long ago.
This album is a strange case because I prefer the CD remaster over the LP and according to a poll I saw on another site once, Animals was considered the best 2011 remaster, and I agree. The CD is incredibly spacey while the LP sounds like an Hard Rock album: the drums and guitar are so much louder than words... and keyboards Tongue The mastering is really messy Confused
I'm glad to have this nice LP in my collection though Smile

i'll see if it's in my doubles (which i'll have home by this weekend)

depending on my mood - Animals can be my favourite Pink Floyd album.

other days - The Final Cut..

and i still think Dark Side of the Moon is amazing too.
I laughed when i saw someone here refer to it as 'overrated'

when that album came out there was nothing like it ...it was mind blowing.

Don't forget Euclid Records, can't miss it the bubble gum pink store front on Chartres St Clap
Out and about today for records.....
Euclid, no longer Bubble-Gum pink, more Yellow/Cream now, and a mile or 2 down the road. Took forever by foot.
Worthwhile - 3 LP's - Michael Quatro Jam Band 'Look Deeply Into The Mirror', Journey 'Dream After Dream', and Messhugah - 'I'. Should be a blast.
