La Famiglia Degli Ortega

"Their only album from 1973 can hardly be described as a progressive LP, being mostly folk-influenced and with large use of acoustic instruments and multi-vocal parts in West Coast style. Among the eight tracks even an italian translation of english traditional John Barleycorn. Despite this is the album is well considered among some collectors."

I've never heard of it before but I already like it (huge fan of vocal harmonies right here)Smile

^ pshh, just do what I do...pretend you have more! LOL If you use last.fm or some internet radio stations, you'll quickly hear enough to have informed opinions. And of course the "official" Italian prog website is a great place to learn about it outside of PA.

you can do better than that...just wait until someone is gushing about this new album they just picked up and jump in with something like "oh yyyeaaah bro, the mellotronz on that one kick assss", or you can take the sly route and look up the musicians names and show off yer knowledge, "woa, Patizio Fariselli really cooks on that one, Flavio Premoli eat your heart out!"

CoolLOL

Ah. Does naming instruments like chittarita and mandocello make me look more authentic?

yes, bonus ego points will be awarded, and translating lyrics will get you a fancy title like "Italian Symphonic Prog Specialist"; at that point Linus and I will be required to be your servant, bringing grapes and catering to your every whim. (thats what they keep us laymen around for)

LOL, I suppose the perks of that are better than being a RIO/Zeuhl/Random Noise specialist

hahaha, very little is known about what actually goes on over there...but I've heard strange noises at night that frigtened the bejesus out of me (apparently, they were "experimenting"), and folks have been known to disappear...or worse, become completely disenfranchised with the concept of "melody" all togetherShocked *shivers up my spine" MAKE IT STOP!

I thought they were just squeezing the latest masterpiece out of Jarno Sarkula's cat. Seriously, it wasn't called Henry Cow just because it sounded like a good name...

...y'know I hadn't considered that.  Oh and you're catching on brother, I don't even know who Jarno Sarkula is, you get a heapload of ego points (plus kudos for making a joke at Henry Cow, hehe).Thumbs%20Up

I don't either. Oh, he's important to the development of the post-Zeuhl style of bass cat, as well as being a very talented goat-player. He was responsible (though largely uncredited) for Alamaailman Vasarat's masterpiece, though their label forced them to release it with a false band name and with a few more commercial tracks.

He also performed burp on Dandelions in the Smoking Ruins Of Stalingrad's post-rock-noise masterpiece Krackeljack. Perhaps his biggest achievement so far.

To be honest, I wasn't too impressed with that one. I felt he lost the ability to just play when he started thinking about it.
