The highest number of CD I ever bought was 12 (almost a year ago).

What did you get?

Pink Floyd - Meddle & Division Bell
David Guilmour - S/T
Roger Waters - Radio Kaos
Os Mutantes - Ao Vivo
Dream Theater - Live at the Marquee

José Luís Fernández Ledesma - Sol Central
Batesini - Scored Fractals
Symphonic Age - Prologue to Infinity
Kiko Loureiro - Fullblast
Colossus Project - Empire at War
Trem do Futuro - O Tempo
Solis - Gemini
Scythe - Divorced Land
Violeta de Outono - Live at Rio Art Rock Festival '97
Ergo Sum - S/T & Mixolidio
Judas Priest - Painkiller

Grand total: around R$ 550,00 Ouch

That's it.

I've never heard of more than half of these bands Embarrassed Actually I know six of them, and I know what Musea projects usually sound like.

Me neither, lol. Mmany of those are completely unknown to me, but were with a neat price! The ones I do know are on bold now.

LOL, subtract Violeta de Outono and Kiko Loureiro and you get what I also know. LOL

I love Gilmour's s/t with a passion.

My father hates his work, lol. He is a Waters fanboy, but Guilmour S/T is a great album, as is On an Island. I still have not listened neither his s/t or Radio Kaos, though, because I'm listenint to Os Mutantes. Christ, what a fantastic live album. Big smileWackoHeadbanger

It is like Yes + psichedelia + LSD + LIVE!

From Os Mutantes I've only heard their 1968 album with the whacky green cover, it's pretty sweet.

Does Roger Waters have a s/t? Hmm.

From the non-PF albums of the PF canon, my favourites are Gilmour's and Wright's debuts. I remember listening to all of Roger's studio albums once, and liking them, but nothing else of the impressions has survived.

No, I meant David Gilmour's s/t. As for Roger, his solo albums are more of an evolution from Floyd's final era (71-79) with a humoungous blues-rock influence.

The Mutantes' first album is nothing like the rest of their discography. They are pretty eclectic actually! Their first album was part of a pioneering cultural movement here in Brazil called Tropicália, but starting with their next album, released in 69, they changed to psychedelic / progressive rock, a style they kept untill Rita Lee left the group in 72 (I think). From 72 untill they broke up they were a progressive rock band, with mild Yes and Deep Purple (the latter only in the late 70's) influences. If you would like to take a listen, listen to their 69 album, Mutantes, as well as their more "progressive" albums O A e o Z and Tudo foi feito pelo Sol.

Thanks Caio. Also, Tropicalia sounds awesome as a name for a cultural movement. Tongue

Yes, indeed. If you can, take a peak @ the portuguese article about it. The english & spanish ones aren't very informative about it.

The English article is brief but it'll have to pass the Portuguese one unfortunately LOL. Apparently I knew about the movement (I read some stuff when I discovered Caetano Veloso) but I didn't know it had a name. And Caetano is such a cool guy.

True. I actually find it amusing that people actually look at good eyes at the 80's music, excepting the ressurecting metal scene, when the 70's music scene was so rich and powerful. Most of the legendary BR artists of today recorded their best and strongest albums during the 70's/late 60's, as is the case with Caetano, for example.

I don't find it amusing, but perfectly understandable. Current tastes are rooted in 80s alternative (post-punk, new wave, etc.), to which the 70s classic rock is the complete opposite. No wonder there isn't much of a 70s revival except for the prog-scene (which isn't much of a revival because the patient is IMO quite dead). I can agree there is a small brand of contemporary art-rock that borrows a lot from 70s art rock like Queen, Floyd, Bowie (I'm thinking of Muse, PT, dredg, Pineapple Thief, Demians, byron). But even if one the bands I mentioned is highly popular I still think they're a niche. I think that the 60s revival that is happening (to an extent) is much more promising for fans of the classic rock sound, because 60s psych sound is much more akin to the alternative sound.

And there is The Mars Volta, who are mixing 60s influences (Santana, Hendrix, The Who, Floyd) with 70s influences (KC, Can, VdGG, prog-fusion, funk) with hardcore in a completely unique recipe that I don't even know how to relate them to the above ideas LOL

There's a lot of current bands that are rooted in 70s rock, no?

Airbourne, Year Long Disaster, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Them Crooked Vulture...

John Paul Jones is in TCV, and their album is excellent.
