I'll be honest Cristi, I've always struggled with early Anathema... I can cope with Alt 4, but can't say I enjoyed them until Judgement. I bought this digi remaster with bonus tracks recently for £3 just to see whether I could grow into it a little; the first two, I find to be a really hard listen, just not my style at all. Naturally, I love We're Here and Weather Systems though...

I can't imagine this will be up my street, either... would you put it in the Zero Hour category? I do have to take my hat off to you though, your appreciation of the prog/ metal genre is very broad and diverse. You must have a fairly impressive collection...

Their first album is marred by the poor vocals, even for growling IMO. There are some nice ideas here and there, for early death-doom. I have to be in the mood for that album.
Their first two albums of the 2000s are my least favorite. They try to sound like PT, Radiohead and a little bit of Floyd. Should be good, right? But I rarely get back to those two albums, like the debut, I will listen in the right mood.
Eternity and Judgement are my favorite Anathema albums.

I originally got into Anathema through Exit & Disaster and whilst I can't disagree with your assessment about their 'Stupid Dream' era PT influence, that is exactly why I like them, especially Exit. Disaster admittedly tails off a little, but I play them both quite a bit.

We both know, they aren't the type of album that reach out and grab you by the scruff of the neck. I can well understand it if they don't do it for you. I can imagine you being quite a fan of Novembre: Materia, though?

no, but now that you mention it, maybe I need to give that band another chance as well.

^^ it's funny, you think you get a feel for someone's tastes.. but yours are quite broad. It just seems to fit into that 'Judgement' style post metal you like, and it's their best.
