Looks familiar, amirite bruv? I really like how intricate the song structures' building up and release of tension are here, as well as the cynical humour in Snake's lyrics.

I used to have this on vinyl ages ago. I practically wore it out within a year or so after buying it in 87. I was living in Montreal at the time this was released, so yeah, local heroes & such as well.

I get the impression Voivod are one of those bands who are more influential than popular, so I'm curious to know if they're more well known in Canada in general and Québec in specific.

In Montreal they were, but not to the level of the 'big four' in thrash. They did have a strong crossover appeal to a lot of punks there though, more than much of the big name acts outside of Slayer.

The music tastes in Montreal in general were different than what I was used to living in the states beforehand, much more Euro-centric as far as mainstream music went (The Smiths & The Cure seemed more popular than Michael Jackson), and there were way more fans of punk & thrash stuff in highschool. Lots of Dead Kennedys and Venom shirts. When I moved back to the states in 1988 it was hard finding anyone who knew of Voivod, as I was quite a fan.

Suppose I should keep with the thread topic...listening to Kara's 'Lupin' EP. Don't ask.
