Maybe I am in a minority here, but I find the clear vocals "weak" (PT or Riverside-like, lacking personnality) and the growls horrid. The "atmospheric" passages bore me to death. Of course that's my opinion.

It seems to me like the singer is having an internal bleedingWink

John Tardy = best death metal "growler". All others are "amateurs".

Nope. Mikael Akerfeldt is the world's best growler Wink

can't argue with tastes.. however I will say that Ackerfeldt's vocals are one of the strongest draws for me.  The growling is cute.. sure it is meant to be badass, it is metal you know, but I like it... but what drew me in where the 'clean' vocals. I like his voice.. and LOVE how the two constrast each other.  Like my beloved Italian music..  don't understand it.. and not trying to.. but the voice is as much as an instrument as anything with strings.

I have the kids coming today and I know we have been there done that with album time lengths but I prefer them up to about 50 to 60 mins. These are all around 30 to 40 and I get to hear a pile of great albums in around 3 hours.

If you like Opeth, you NEED to check out Crimson by Edge of Sanity. It's progressive metal firmly based in Swedish melodic death metal (similar to Opeth), but it's a 40-minute epic concept song!

But without clear vocals this time.

Also, I don't if you would agree with me, but the last suffocation sounds a bit "proggy", mainly thanks to Mike Smith's incredible drumming.

No problem! I really wish I was in a situation where I had CD's that I didn't even know I had! LOL I'm REALLY tight on cash lately. I can't mow my neighbor's lawns during the winter, so I don't have a whole lot of spare change LOL

Mike Smith is indeed a great drummer. I don't have their latest album, but their other stuff never really impressed me too much.
