I have an update for my dear friends at the ZART team.

I've been listening to Le Silo alot lately and I'm enjoying them ALOT. Oiseaux is an excellent track and the same can be said about the whole album.

I also got a new Shub-Niggurath album and I'll be listening to it as well when I have the space and time.

I'll be getting Ma Banlieue Flasque next. I saw their album floating around on the internet. Big smile

P.S.
Still hooked on Boredoms.

Ruben, it's my task to write the bio for Le Silo.  They've been cleared for addition, but the team is waiting on me.  I hope to do this soon.

Great band I agree.

Indeed. I also agree on Ahvak, their a great band, but I haven't gave it the listenings I'd like to.

I think I'll be writting at least 2 bios tonight. I have some free time in my hands.

Cool.  Well don't steal that Le Silo bio from me! Wink

Yes, I really liked Ahvak's album, superb stuff!

I must check out Disen Gage soon also.

Not only heard it, but helped put it together Wink. This was quite a surprise for me when I first heard it - a CD-R copy of a cassette tape that looked like it had been through a hurricane. The original tapes were given us to work with by the keyboard player, and our sound guy Asaf did an absolutely incredible job remastering the stuff. You wouldn't believe what the originals sounded like.

If you don't have the CD, the booklet mentions they performed live a lot, and they did. There's a number of performances that were taped - yes, they COULD play this stuff live, and did it well - that I was hoping to release at some point (I have several hours of live recordings here somewhere), but the quality of the recordings varies wildly. Nevertheless, we were thrilled to have been able to release this and very glad that the band finally found an audience. They'd submitted it to Cuneiform in the early days, and Steve was going to release it, but the band was in a state of flux and it never happened. Sadly, it was the last CD we released -

I'm sorry, did you say your sound guy's name is Asaf? Is he Israeli? (I am Assaf as well, and it should be with two S, but who cares).

Wow, that's excellent, you must have been really thrilled to be a part of that!

I hear two members of the band have sadly died, which is a real shame as they were highly talented.  I would love to hear those live tapes, they sound very exciting.

Good work on that! Clap

I hate to be a bringer of more bands to investigate... but having just read a review of Porcket Orchestra, I read something about a band called Cartoon/PFS (or is that two bands?) who were around at the same time as Pocket Orchestra.

Does anyone know any more?

Hmmm... I know there are a few bands which take the name Cartoon (US, AUS and BRA). But I would guess they are likening them to the American band which released a few albums in the early '80s. I've just heard the name scattered about the places, not sure of styles and other such information.

PSF is a project headed by some of the members (maybe just one) of Cartoon.

The trio PFS was formed in 1984 by members of the quintet Cartoon. PFS established a leaner, more improvisational sound. The band performed shorter pieces that could quickly straddle the bounds of jazz, classical, industrial and rock.

Scott Brazieal (keyboards, tape effects and composition) studied composition at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. He has composed and performed music for ballet and film, and has developed musical applications for the Macintosh computer. Herb Diamant (saxophone, bassoon and digital effects) graduated from Carnegie-Mellon with degrees in computer analysis and physics. He has studied and played wind instruments since grade school, performing music ranging from traditional and 20th Century classical music to Dixieland. Gary Parra (percussion) is an accountant and self-taught musician. He has performed in the rock, jazz, classical and country and western idioms.

I hope this is some help. Most of it is just from the internet searching as I not very knowledgeable on the subject. So just a little more look around and I'm sure you will find a little more in depth material.

Thanks!

Sounds interesting.  They released albums on Cuneiform too.

An excerpt from Ground and Sky about Pocket Orchestra:

The music on this extremely welcome and well-produced reissue is RIO in the humorous, playful style of Samla Mammas Manna or fellow Americans The Muffins, though another point of comparison might be the band's personal friends Cartoon/PFS (who released albums on Cuneiform Records roughly contemporaneous to Pocket Orchestra's existence).

They're listed at Cuneiform here: http://www.cuneiformrecords.com/bandshtml/cartoon.html

The description sounds like they could fit here. Embarrassed

And PFS: http://www.cuneiformrecords.com/bandshtml/pfs.html

I've ordered albums by Cartoon and PFS (they're on a clearence sale as it happens, which is nice. Wink)

I'll let you know my thoughts about them both when I finally hear them (could be years away yet).

Right, Asaf Carmeli, he's in Israel. He did all the remastering for MIO. He should be famous. He has golden ears.

I made a mistake, I was thinking of Kombinat M and Forever Einstein.  Glad you're making those purchases though.  The description for Cartoon sounds very promising.  Man With Hat is surprised they're not on PA.

yesterday i sent some samples of a japanese band named pochakaite malko whom i would like us to consider. in the mean time, i thought folks might be interested in knowing they are released by the same label that released Le Silo, tutinoko. I wanted to list the site url 'cause they have a really cool video of one of the tracks, but it seems to be down presently. keep you posted..
