I guess, since the title of the song translates as “The Language of the Water”, I’ll go for “Te Reo o te Wai”, by Ariana Tikao and Al Fraser.

I'll go with "Sea of Joy" by Blind Faith, even if it is a relatively well-known song.

Since my two proposals so far were both invalid, I will dare to correct myself with three suggestions of songs by artists that are not listen on PA (or at least, they should not be ![]() 1. 'Rock Me on the Water' by Jackson Browne 2. 'Water Under the Bridge' by Adele 3. 'Madman Across the Water' by Elton John |

Time for me to nominate.
Nick Drake's "River Man" and Stringtronics' "Dawn Mist" are my favourites of my selections, but I was not planning to use them as I have nominated each in past rounds. That said, I couldn't resist mentioning them again. I mentioned the fist four to "spring" to mind. Hope that didn't muddy the waters at all. Of the other two, Extradition's "A Water Song" and PJ Harvey's "The River", I'm not really confident choosing between the two. It won't be like hell or high water making a choice, but, hmm, okay... My nomination is PJ Harvey - The River Great round, I actually wanted to mention much more as they came to me later as the well doesn't easily run dry with this topic. |

First thoughts to the end of Page Two, with a couple of additions.
Logan: Ween
“Piss Up A Rope” Kind of an alt country
sound to these folks with this humourous song.
Goes off into some skewy keyboards in the middle. What I call an FU song. Poor guy, somehow I don’t feel sorry for him,
though. And lol on your final
comment. Raff: The Stranglers “Toiler on the Sea”
Know the band name, but never heard before, at least as far as I
know. Love the Viking type silhouette
before starting the video. Rocking start with drums, bass, guitars and keys all
kicking in one right after the other.
Surf-type guitars! Love that, and
completely didn’t expect it. Semi-punk-garage-TexMex organ. Vocals are strident and monotone-ish in that punkish
way. George: Gillan & Glover “Clouds & Rain” Starts with some rain and thunder sounds,
then keys enter and Ian goes right into the vocal. Guitar and bass and some choir-y vocals
behind the verses. Really clear and
clean production here. Love the way the
bass and guitar work together also.
Synthy lead supplied by Mr. Glover.
Nice song, would suit very well in concert for contrast to their more
rocking styles. Mark Eitzel “Southend on
Sea” Drums, guitar and horns begin this
one, with syncopated timing. Vocalist is
a bit sing-songy/talky, not a problem for me, just a description. Good storytelling of sitting by the promenade
and watching everyone go by and at the same time examining a flailing (yes
flailing) relationship. Lewian: Mice Parade “Waterslide” Ooooooh, pretty tinkly-sparkly sounds start the piece and some really juxtaposing guitar lines as pretty complex drums find their way in the door. Vibes are added, this all works extremely well, building with a choral sort of vocal line with lots of effect on it. Some thundery sounds and whirring almost accordion sounds mix in with the vibes accenting here and there. Guitars stand alone and it gets a little drone-ish, adding in strumming raga-ish guitar, too. Stops abruptly, with footsteps leaving the aural room. Thomas Dolby “One of Our Submarines” Electronic whale/underwater songs begin this one with sonic whoops and bubbles. Then the full 80s drum sound and lots of keyboard weee-aaaaaa-eeee-weees. Very clear vocals here, with that sort of detached 80’s sound. Harmonizing vocally with the guitarist, watery-warbly lead effects on the guitar. I like the feeling it evokes in me, it’s very space-sounding, which also makes me think of deep ocean, another place we know so little about in comparison with what there appears to be to learn yet. My nominee is Gustavo Santoalalla - Iguazú.
From Wikipedia: The name Iguazú comes from the Guarani or Tupi words "y", meaning "water", and "ûasú", meaning "big". Legend has it that a deity planned to marry a beautiful woman named Naipí, who fled with her mortal lover Tarobá in a canoe. In a rage, the deity sliced the river, creating the waterfalls and condemning the lovers to an eternal fall. The first European to record the existence of the falls was the Spanish Conquistador Álvar Núñez Cabeza de Vaca in 1541. |
