No Country for Old Men
Best Cohen Bros. movie I've seen; the blackness of Barton Fink and bizarre serendipity of Fargo. Javier Bardem and Josh Brolin are outstanding, Tommy Lee Jones perfect. Deserving of the awards, a triumph. |

And is also one of the best book adaptations. Certainly captured the bleakness of it.

Watched "The Men Who Stare at Goats" and "Shutter Island" this weekend.
Thought ....Goats was very funny, especially if you like Star Wars and get the references. A great cast playing some funny and quirky characters. Shutter Island was decent, but it seemed too long and a bit slow paced. I like Scorcese and this has a good feel to it, just paced poorly.

yeah it seemed that way, though I've not read it
speaking of books, I read this one when it was first published and it's actually a rather serious - if very amusing - piece of nonfiction, chronicling the US military's interest in psychic applications and other paranormal things |

Yeah, I knew that, though I haven't read the book. I think the fact the the military actually worked on this is what makes the whole concept so funny. Is the book title the same as the film? I'll have to check it out.

Talladega Nights with Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter would be interesting.

Just watched Memento last night... Pretty good, acting was better-than-average, and the story was pretty well organized, even if it was a little silly. Hmm, I'd give it an 7.5 out of 10: not bad, quite enjoyable even. Definitely better than Nolan's Batman series of movies, but not quite as good as Inception.

Oldboy. Inventive screenplay, imaginative cinematography, creepy resolution. Recommended.

I saw the end of Last of the Mohicans. Awesome.
I think Daniel Day-Lewis might be my favorite actor, if not just simply the best actor |

^ you could start an ActorsArchives and argue about it in threads like 'Best Actor Ever', 'Daniel Day Lewis: God Among Thespians', and 'Can This Guy Act or What?'

There Will Be Blood is without doubt the best movie of the decade, IMO. Oh, and I just got home from watching Dinner for Schmucks.......... Jemaine was the only funny person in the movie, and wow, was it a bad movie. |

The One
Silly but tightly-made Jet Li vehicle about an eternal assassin that travels the fabric of time/space hunting variations of himself. Good action thriller with Li in a dual role and typically brilliant martial arts choreography, reminiscent of Brother From Another Planet, Terminator, and The Matrix. Not at all bad, and cements the actor's position as the true Bruce Lee emulous. |

I watched the beginning of Antichrist because I was reading something and somebody said it was one of the most explicit movies on Netflix instant and the preview for it was bizarre enough I was curious. I was not prepared to see William Dafoe's thrusting penis in the first minute of the film, in elegant black and white slow motion with a classical aria backing! I got bored and didn't really watch much more of it, although it doesn't seem like a good movie, but I just wanted to share that with you.

Is that an oscar in Dafoe's pocket or is just pleased to see HP?

Oh wait, on Wikipedia it says that they used body doubles for the sex, how disappointing. If I'm going to see a penis (and it was a pretty impressive one), it should at least be a famous one! I skipped through it, fortunately bypassing the part when she cuts off her clit with garden shears, anyway, WIlliam Defoe ends up strangling her because she's kraaaaazy. I'm not sure why some people would think this is a good or entertaining or clever movie.
This is pretty representative of the movie as a whole.
