^ Ah, yes I should explain about that..
..my meeting was cancelled, this morning. Some of us have better things to do with our time, than sit around slurping Cappacinos, ing around with Powerpoint slideshows, sharing information that everyone knows anyway. Then of course, there's the inevitable ing telecon link to the Swiss office, which takes ages to set up, and doesn't work, either because some ****wit doesn't know how to do it, or a bloody cable has been taken from the meeting room..and then the ing beamner doesn't work, so you end up spending the first hour just ing about!! So anyway, like I said. No meeting, so no need to rant.. ... |

OK, I understand that the upcoming US election is pretty ing important, seeing as how the winner gets to be de facto leader of the western world (which makes most reality TV prizes look pretty ing lame) but it seems like there's nothing else in the UK news at the moment. It seemed to take up about 40 minutes of the last hour on BBC News 24 and they're still only deciding who the ing candidates are! I mean, is Europe closed for maintenance? Has the far east gone on holiday? Has nothing of interest happened in New Zealand? People who couldn't name the leaders of Germany, France and Italy can currently tell you the ing inside leg measurements of the main candidates in the presidential race and what they had for ing breakfast. Quite frankly, when they finally do announce the winner of the election (which will apparently be sometime shortly after the Beijing olympics) the whole world will be completely past caring.

To build off of Syzygy:
Why the do "news" outlets call states for candidates when 2 -ing % of the districts are reporting in? Did they learn -ing nothing from 2000? I remember being 11 years old, and the night of the election the news said Gore won Florida. Funny thing, when I woke up the next morning, George Bush was president-elect. You think that would be a -ing lesson! But no, gotta keep those ratings up! Integrity, credibility, what the are those? |

Chris, I completely agree. My father has also been besmirching the news coverage about the US General Elections.
However, I'm also fed up with the news about that poor lass who died at Swindon's Great Western Hospital, which happened 4 years ago and only seems to have reached National news when the trial began, whilst it's been all over my local news for almost a month now, so it's almost old news to me. |

Oh yes, dont get me started on news agendas.. in fact the BBC in general..
Th race for the Whitehouse, I do find interesting and like to be kept informed, but as Chris says, has nothing else happened in the world of late? In Israel, the first suicide bomber struck in over a year, the other day. The Israeli army bulldozed a mosque in Jerusalem, roadside bombs are going off every day in Iraq and Afghanistan is no picnic either, but you generally have to go looking for this news. It's not widely repoprted any more in the UK, certainly not on prime time news. The emphasis has shifted to stories about individuals and their brave fight against some health authority, in order to get hold of a drug for their life threatening condition. Whilist I dont want to play down the seriousness of their plight, it's not really news. It's a regional item at best. Warning: Rant incoming... The BBC has dumbed down to the level of ITV, promoting shows with twirling news readers in ball gowns on ice, replacing documenataries, quality drama, music and comedy. Moron TV for a nation of fat ignorant morons, who like nothing better than a diet of KFC, Holby City and anything with that complete tw&t Graham Norton. I cant believe also that Lenny Henry has made it back on to BBC TV. Who let that happen?? Is that lobotomised studio audience paid to laugh at his inane, insipid observations on life? You'd have to pay me a load of cash to laugh at that idiot, and even then I'd have to have a potato sack over my head to avoid being recognised by friends or family. Last night Horizon, which used to be the flagship BBC documentary. was all about drugs and how ghastly they are for us. I hate this moral drum banging, and I hate the way they round up a load of idiots off the streets and ask them to take part in a test to prove how binge drinking has ed their brains up. Why dont they just ask them; 'Do you lke the BBC?' If they answer yes, then we can assume their mechanisms have gone completely. If it transpires they think Graham Norton or Lilly Savage is funny, then we may as well kiss our collective arses goodnight. |

^ Norton is an odious little tyke; a self congratualting media whore, whose ugly boat seems to turn up on every other program at the moment. He's like one of those huge turds that wont flush away..
As for Lenny Henry he was at his peak in Tiswas, and even then he was outshined by Bob Carolgese and the Phantom Flan Flinger.. |

AND ANOTHER THING -
"Panorama" In olden days, this used to be cutting edge current affairs programming with (9 times out of 10) a Dimbleby fronting the show (FROM A STUDIO, NOT SOME CRAPPY OUTSIDE BROADCAST OR BLUE SCREEN WITH BBC/BLAKES SEVEN QUALITY CGI GRAPHICS IN BOLD PRIMARY COLOURS TO KEEP THE WOBBLING CLASSES INTERESTED IN SOMETHING OTHER THAN THEIR OBLIGATORY McWITS CHICKEN ENTRAIL IN A BAP) dispensing information in a clear and concise manner being both truly informative and interesting, thereby maintaining the BBC's remit for public information broadcasting. Nowadays, it's been reduced from an hour to 30 minutes (BECAUSE THE AFOREMENTIONED WOBBLING CLASSES HAVE GOT THE ATTENTION SPAN OF A BRAIN DAMAGED GNAT), with "cutting edge" camera effects & snap cuts to talking heads who JUST IN CASE THE WOBBLING MASSES CAN'T TELL, ARE WEARING WHITE COATS & SITTING IN FRONT OF A TEST TUBE TO PROVE THEY'RE SCIENTISTS as a result of which by the end of the half hour they now devote to their subject matter, you know absolutely nothing other than the fact you WANT TO KILL THE PRODUCER, DIRECTOR, AND ESPECIALLY THE SMUGLY GRINNING (unless it's a serious subject in which case he'll be wearing his serious face) IDIOT THEY NOW HAVE FRONTING THE BLOODY SHOW! |

^ Now that's a bloody good rant, Mr Garten. Superb!
I have to concur, especially with the bit about the use of effects, and people in labcoats, trying to validate the inane assertion the program is making. ..AND why is it that when they show a 'talking head' it's as though the camera man is p!ssed and lying on his side? The 'talking head' is always off set to the left or right of the screen, and the camera is practically up their nostril. On Horizon last night, they were talking to this drugs 'expert' and the camera and lighting made her look like Gene Simmons without the make up, and they were so close you could almost see food trapped between her teeth!.. |

rassen'frassen'frikenfen' Amazon.co.uk!! Last year I pre-ordered Riverside's Rapid Eye Movement and then had to wait until three weeks after it had been released for it to be delivered. Now they've just dispatched Ayreon's 89 (or however you pronounce it... oh-one-oh-one-one-oh-oh-one? nargh! It's an album, not ing morse-code ! If I want lessons in binary I'd have dropped out of Uni early and become a systems analyst! Argh! I hate dumb album names, names you can't pronounce - () - what kind of name is that for heaven's sake - you think it's clever? being all intellectual and not wanting to preempt the listener's interpretation? Boocks pickled in vinegar! - it's pretentious pseudointellectual marketting twaddle nothing more, nothing less - it's worse than eponymous (ie s/t) - come on you numbties - surely creative artists can at least think of a suitable name for their own ing work or are you really that ashamed of it - why not just release it as an Alan Smithee production and be done with!) anyway. hum. I digress - they've finally dispatched it 2½ weeks after its release even-though I pre-ordered that too - what's the fing point? Surely the whole point of pre-ordering is so they can get enough stock in to dispatch them all on the release-date. I could have bought it from the high-street two weekends ago instead. Frustration? Pah! |

The ASCII character mapped to decimal 89 is "Y" - as in "Y did you give your album such an awful title?"

Although I agree with you, Andy, I thought Horizon the week before was very good (all about Gravity) and the series called Atom is also excellent.
However, they've moved The Sky at Night to BBC 3 (or is it 4?) now, which means those of us without Digital are screwed (I have access to Digital though). I also think there's some good comedy around, I know Jim doesn't like it, but The Mighty Boosh is great and there's another comedy on Thursday evenings that I also think is very good (so good, I've forgotten the name of it). Generally though, I agree, I find myself watching BBC 3 or 4 or maybe Dave, more and more now. Edited by Geck0 - February 06 2008 at 15:41 |

The Mighty Boosh is pretty cool . I've seen epsiodes on DVD, as I'm one of these types who has not embraced the digital TV age yet. I'll no doubt be the last person in the UK to switch over. The beeb have been quite cunning really, as they have increasingly put their better programmes on 3 & 4, and have dumbed down 1 & 2, in order to encourage quicker digital uptake. Thats my loony conspiracy theory anyway. I know the Hawkwind documentary was on BBC4. Can you imagine anything like that on 1 or 2?? I imagine when we've all switched over, they'll churn out the usual pap on all channels.. It's the documentary style I think I object to more than anything else; all the fast camera crap, and sound effects to dramatise the subject matter. I remember one documentary about how the twin towers collapsed, and it was presented like it was entertainment. That really p!ssed me off when I watched it. |

I agree, except for one thing: have you heard him on Just A Minute? He was on the other week and was actually pretty good - at times reminiscent of the late, great Kenneth Williams. Of course, as it's on good old Radio 4 we don't have to look at the revolting little t**ser, and on JAM he's surrounded by people who are mostly cleverer than he is so he's kept in his place.
