How about in a bar? It would be better then to have the accompanying video.

I made it half an hour in until I bailed, I feel I've done my cinematic duty. And something did happen stonie, there's a DEMON BABY! I skipped ahead, and holy crap this is the dumbest thing I have ever watched.

That's not trying to be art, though.

However, to be fair, the incredibly stupid segment turned out to be a dream, which makes it much less stupid, although it's still incomprehensible.

Bar, wedding, baby showers, anything is better with Stravinsky playing.

I can't imagine watching a ballet would boost your social status very high in middle/high school.

According to the website of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, even Stravinsky preferred it without the accompanying ballet.  I quote: "...it may be that The Rite of Spring was destined to have its greatest impact in the concert hall. Stravinsky, for one, preferred it that way. Without visual distractions, we may be swept away by the astonishing pagan sound-world the composer has created."

Quote King County Sheriff's Sgt. John Urquhart said the guards were right to follow their training.
"If you're a bank teller and you do something other than give them the money, you're going to get fired," Urquhart said. "We don't expect civilians to take police action. In this case, it was a violent fight, and they were outnumbered by this pack of people 3-to-1

Well thats f**king stupid.

I only watched a little bit of 2001, but I am certain that if I sat down and watched the whole thing I would like it more than the half hour plus skip throughs I watched of Eraserhead. 2001 may be slooooooow, but it has a plot and dialogue, which resolves into a climax. I wonder if this is how other people feel when they listen to avant-garde music...

I prefer it (and the only other ballet I've watched, Les Noces) audio only too.

Probably, I don't think you can watch movies like that in the same way you watch, say, Iron Man.

Mmmmm Les Noces (aka Magma and Koenjihyakkei's bitch).

But Firebird is also excellent.  I do have Les sacre du printemps and Firebird on CD though.  I also need Apollo and Les Noces.

I found a Stravinsky section in Blackwell's bookstore and they had everything but Les Noces.  Sad times.  My mate bought some Borodin though.

Obviously, but you can't expect me to enjoy the camera filming absolutely nothing happening. I'm going to give 2001 another shot later, I wasn't entirely fair to it. I think the book series kind of sucked too, so that's already a strike against poor Stanley. I think I tried to read 2010 a few times, but I never made it to the end. Although that was a long time ago.

I love 2001, but I completely understand why people don't like it; to be fair, a lot of time is taken by scenes that do essentially nothing for the plot. It could seem like half the movie is listening to the Blue Danube watching a space shuttle dock. LOL
