Well I watched the Academy Award-nominated musical Moulin Rouge just now.

I must say, apart from being an altogether offensive collection of tastelessly presented anachronisms, I suppose it wasn't that bad...LOL

X-Men Origins: Wolverine

I like what they did with the X-Men.  It was a favorite comix title from childhood and the filmmakers seemed to show great respect and admiration toward the handling of the films; the fact that mutants are not superheroes, each only have one very limited power, are plagued by their abilities and hunted by almost everyone.  Cool.

Wolverine is an obvious first choice for the spinoff 'Origins' series, Hugh Jackman returning as the stocky bladeslinging wolfman and is likable and well-cast as always in the role.  Liev Schreiber [Manchurian Candidate] continues his outstanding career of convincing and moving characterizations, this time as Victor Creed, an angry mutant out for revenge.  Plus the standard slew of goodguys and bad.  But other than that there's not much here except a vague plot about a scientist trying to harness mutant powers.  Not terrible if you're an X-Head but avoidable otherwise.

Finally got around to seeing Tropic Thunder and it was pretty damn funny.  Robert Downey Jr. was absolutely brilliant.  The only problem with the movie was the presence of Tom Cruise, who was completely out of place.  Tom Cruise should feel ashamed of himself: being outacted by Matthew McCounahey (didn't bother looking up the spelling).  At least Matt knows, and seems to accept, that he's bad actor.

For Your Consideration

Reasonably funny Chris Guest project with the usual cast of hilarious people - Fred Willard, Mike McKean, Harry Shearer, Parker Posey, etc. - about the Hollywood runaround and independent film industry.  Better than Waiting for Guffman, not as good as Best in Show or A Mighty Wind.

My dad thought the fake trailers in Tropic Thunder were real, lol. I thought Tom Cruise was pretty good, but I also thought he was fantastic in Magnolia, so maybe I have bad taste. Maybe the real test of movie watching skills is whether or not you think he ruined Eyes Wide Shut, which I haven't seen.

Am I the only one who didn't like Best in Show that much? Christopher Guest was great, but I despise Eugene Levy and everything he touches.

Up--Less "groundbreaking" but much funnier than WALL-E, but maybe I only think that because I'm a dog person. I wish there had been fewer action sequences, though, the plot and action was ridiculous even for a cartoon, so it was impossible for me to get involved in it. Although to be fair to WALL-E, I went into Up completely blind, except for knowing about the balloons, while I had already seen a lot of promotional media for WALL-E, so it was a lot easier to surprise me in Up. Even if I had seen the poster, it would have ruined some of the early jokes about the bird.

No, you are not the only one.
There is such thing as being too dry, it's a fine line.  I also dislike dogs and the idea of dog shows quite a bit so my view might be slightly clouded on this one.

Recently watched 'Date NIght' with Steve Carrell and Tina Fey... Its a sad remark to make when the best part of the movie were the outtakes...

you're right it wasn't great, just somewhat better than Guffman, I remember wanting desperately to laugh out loud but I just never did.. A Mighty Wind on the other hand is really good, almost on a par with Tap, and the original songs are first-rate Clap

His (Gilliam) latest one, "The Imaginarium Of Dr. Parnassus" is pretty damn cool in its own right.  I'd give it a 9/10.  Just beautiful, revision of the old Faustian legend.  Very imaginative.

I watched City Of Lost Children for the first time in years, and well, it still kicks ass.  Excellent style, colorful, great characters, amazing shots... and a great story to boot.  Also, just for the score alone (Angelo Badalamenti) it is exemplary!  9/10

I really need to see that film.  One of my favorite "critics" (Doug Walker) says Brazil is his favorite film of all time too.  One of my teachers also reccommended it to me when I asked him about really dark and mind-bending movies I should see.

True; all the acting is great in Brazil, along with the general look of the film.  Shame the main story is idiotic.  Gilliam has an entire dystopia to work with and, yet, he focuses on a low-level jackass pursuing some chick he saw in a dream?  This movie is a frustrating waste of tremendous acting talent and stunning visuals.

Well, outside of The Office and Anchorman, Steve Carrell has done nothing worth watching.  The man is a very limited talent.  And it's a shame to say that because he seems like a great guy.
Tine Fey's "talent" is a stunning work of fiction in itself.  I'm tired of hearing how funny she is.  Sure, she does a fine Palin impression but does that excuse everything else she did to SNL?  The praise for Mean Girls and 30 Rock is over the top is well, both are pretty average.

Hmm, negative today. Oh well

Inglourious Basterds

Awful. 95% of this movie was meaningless. Stupid, irrelevant talking scenes that had nothing to do with the plot. It's a miracle I didn't fall asleep. Most overrated movie of all time, without question. The only good parts here 1. The part with the guy with the baseball bat and 2. the ending. Other than these 2 parts, nothing in the movie generated any interest. 0.5/10

Just got back from Toy Story 3. Any fans of Pixar need to see this. It is arguably the best Pixar yet.
