Wow, that's unfortunate! Check out 'Ghosts' for sure.
I've never knowingly listened to any Popol Vuh or Amon Düül.

Oh, dea... . Check out the Vuh's "Aguirre" and "Hosianna Mantra". No, start with "Aguirre" ... unless you are not into introspective acoustic and choir work in ambient/minimalism.
On the topic: never heard anything by Le Orme.

+1. Well, almost everything. |
Get yourself some maudlin of the Well, wait until midnight, go to a dark, damp room (preferably with a dirt floor, plenty of spiderwebs, and maybe some prison bars), and immerse yourself into the vast world of Toby Driver's mind. |
I think that musical impact is a matter of time and comfort, but I will consider your suggestion. |
Exactly. The more time you spend in the dark room listening to maudlin of the Well, and the less comfortable you are, the more of an impact it will have on you.

No Magma? dang, get MDK, Attahk or KA. Per Un Amico is mandatory too. After that try Camel's Mirage and maybe Shamal by Gong if you aren't sated yet.

Never listened to a whole Flower Kings or Spocks Beard album. Never listened to IQ or Marillions Fugazi. I have no desire to change any of that though
However there is a lot of Opeth i am yet to hear.
And my greatest shame is I still haven't heard Toby Drivers In The L L Library Loft.

Nice! I think I'll try that tonight, maybe? My basement perfectly fits that description. A combination of Bath and Part The second - sounds good to me. I think listening to Kayo Dot might be a little bit more frightening, especially in the environment you described.

I'm quite new to prog so it's understandable, but I'v never heard anything (yet) from Peter Hammill (solo), Opeth, Magma (bar debut and some other tracks), Zappa (bar debut, Hot Rats (I think, can't remember) and some other tracks), Bacamarte, MotW, Di Meola (solo), Nucleus, Renaissance (bar a couple of tracks), Pain of Salvation, Riverside, Edge of Sanity, The Mars Volta (bar a couple of tracks from debut), Cobham (solo), Area, Hancock (solo), Anathema, Santana (bar some newer stuff), Devin Townsend, Tool (bar their No Quarter cover), Porcupine Tree (bar a couple of tracks), Kaya Dot, Atheist, Museo Rosenbach, Ayreon, SBB, Maxophone, Cos, Nemo, Neal Morse, Big Big Train (bar the track Underfall Yard),
(hhhhhhhaaa *catches breath*)
Pekka Pohjola (bar some tracks), Steven Wilson, Birds And Buildings, Maneige, Death, Kevin Gilbert, Yezda Urfa, Queensryche (bar Operation: Mindcrime), Arena, Negura Bunget, Il Balletto di Bronzo, Jean-Luc Ponty, Jannick Top, Enslaved, No-Man, Diabolical Masquerade, Discipline, Sieges Even, Sean Filkins, Beardfish, Fates Warning, Höyry-Kone, Czeslaw Niemen, Haken, Atlas, The Enid, Los Jaivas (bar some tracks), Il Baccio Della Medusa, Spock's Beard (will check them out very soon), Cynic, Sylvan, Eskaton (bar some tracks), Dün (bar some tracks), VDGG (post Still Life), Genesis (post Duke), Strawbs, Anekdoten, Motorpsycho, Gazpacho, Meshuggah etc., etc.
You get the point. I have a lot yet to explore.

Well this is gonna help seeing where my tastes lay out at the moment.
Never heard anything in zeuhl categories and canterbury scene except steve hillage (good) and some soft machine (mixed feelings, particularly "Third" didn't sit well with me). Indo-prog/raga-rock nothing as well.
I do want to explore a bit more later on, out of more classic ones, never listened anything by Focus (I heard Hocus Pocus of course), Miles Davis, Santana, Hawkwind or Mahavishnu Orchestra. Some other stuff that completely passed me by are Iron Maiden (just a few songs), Black Sabbath and Deep Purple.

I'm with Historian9 on not knowing anything from Zeuhl. I've listened to a few songs by Magma, and just didn't appreciate it...sounded to me like they did a BUNCH of pot and thought they were awesome because of it....
To my detriment I've never listened to an entire Genesis album. I need to...the songs I have heard from their older stuff were pretty cool.

Well, we you have rated Xing Sa, which is in Zeuhl with a one star, but perhaps you rated that after you posted that. Although I expect that you would find music that you would like in the Zeuhl universe, judging by your ratings, username, and sigpic, it's probably not for you (maybe at some time you'll appreciate such music more, as, at least in my case, tastes adapted and my horizons widened as I got exposed to more music). My favourite albums in your list are rated with one star (I love Uinivers Zero's Clivage for instance), so I wouldn't recommend the more more avant prog/ RIO oriented, or experimental bands to you. Nor a hell of a lot of other stuff looking at your list. Magma plays RIO fests, and Zeuhl is in the avant camp. Very much doubt you'd like Krauttock, Indo Prog/ Raga Rock, acid folk, Kosmische, progressive electronic, most Jazz Fusion, can see you haven't liked psych and a lot of other stuff too. This is a reason why I like ratings even without reviews. I can see how my tastes mesh up with people and what to recommend and not to recommend. I haven't explored a lot in the metal categories, but I have found stuff to like in all of the metal categories.

1. Don't shout.
2. It can take some time to "get" TFTO
3. Wash your mouth with soap.

Ironically, I think TFTO is like CTTE. It's like a huge extension to the predecessor. Who would think that there are so many people on this globe that like this album?
On the topic: I've mentioned that I haven't heard anything from DT, right? Haven't heard much of Zappa (as in "I've heard only a few albums".) Haven't heard Banco Del Mutuo Soccorso. And then, Genesis and Yes' 80's poppy albums. Opeth, Supertramp, Oldfield's "Ommadawn" in its entirety.

You've never heard Banco del Mutuo Soccorso? I do believe that you should try to remedy that soon.

I used to try everything I found in the top whatever for the year, but I started realizing there were only certain sub-genres I really liked. I kept listening to things in the top list that sounded like nothing but chaotic noise to me...and the thing is that I don't think it's ignorance on my part, because I have a solid background in musical theory.

If you can suggest a Zeuhl band that has any kind of similarities to some of the bands in the sigpic, I promise I'll try it...can't promise I'll like it though.... Actually, I did listen to some of Magma's live album recently. I was listening to it while working, and kind of enjoyed it. But then I tried to listen to Khontark again when I had no distractions, but when I had no distractions I just didn't like it. I felt like the musicians were trying to hard to be all avant garde. And I wasn't hearing the complexity that I crave so much. Sorry dude...

I'm one of those weirdos who strongly dislikes "Close to the Edge", yet loves "Tales from Topographic Oceans".

I listened to about half of it since I posted that, and though I was working at the time and couldn't do an active listen (or find the time to listen to the whole thing ) I did not think that it resembled "crap" in the least bit.
