I just looked at 1989 in music on Wiki, looks like those are my picks. Yeah.

Out of the ones I've heard I'd go with Dire Straits - Brothers in Arms or Sting - The Dream of the Blue Turtles.

Only slightly acquainted with DS, but the Sting is one of '80's favorites.

Glad this thread had some legs. The older you are the harder it gets.

Released date are often when it it impacted you but recorded dates are when it really happened...

1986... Either Metallica's Master of Puppets or Univers Zero's Heatwave. To be fair, my collection from that year is pretty sparse.

Don't know about any album from 1954, but Elvis recorded That's All Right Mama and Bill Haley released Rock Around the Clock and Shake, Rattle and Roll.
So I guess it was a significant year, when rock music was born.
Thus I'm as old as solid rock. LOL
