I think you need 40 posts before you can vote. I know, it seems unfair, but I also had to go through the same thing when I was new. Still, it looks like this competition has attracted a few new members. Cool beans!

Godspeed You! Black Emperor? Sounds like a cross between alternative, prog, black metal, and Gregorian chanting. Worth a listen, I think.

You can post as new users, and I would have thought writing is a more interesting exercise than an anonymous vote.  I know I'd rather hear people's thoughts/ perspectives/ insights when i make polls than just see that a vote has been cast.  And discussion can be interesting.  These polls are mostly just fun (though polls can lead to great musical discoveries); don't know why some people seem take them very seriously (especially these kind of contests --  a lot of work has been put into it, and I respect, by the way).

It was, however, done to prevent abuse (manipulation).  By the way, why are there so many people registering, apparently, to vote for Spock's Beard?  How did people find out about it?

I did a little search and found these, but not many responses there:

I find it highly suspicious that all of a sudden new users come here, and want to vote for SB as their first post.

Lol this poll is riddled with hardcore SB fans .

Yeah, and it was suspicious activities in another one of these for-fun contests that led to the post count requirement (multiple accounts by same user, and I've seen a  few cases of people being solicited at other sites to join PA just to vote in a poll -- not that's fanboyism).  The way I see it, these polls are primarily intended for the PA community's entertainment.  We all started as newbies at one time, but I would rather voters be people who joined because they like the site and want to be a part of it rather than people who come just to vote in the poll and then leave  (those kinds are not part of the community).  if these polls lead to more people joining our community, that is great.

I must say, sometimes the most entertaining thing I have found about these contests is the lengths that some fanboys sometimes go to to push for their choice band.  LOL  I remember a little fiasco some years ago when one member was requesting fans at the fanboard to review and rate a new release here at PA so that it would be top of that year's charts. Mind you, that can translate to more sales for the band, and promoters sometimes do underhanded stuff here.

Next thing you know they might be praying to Kirk's Toupee for divine assistance.  Godspeed you black beard.

Holy s**t, I hadn't realise about that. Now SB MUST advance. I'll make sure of it.

That is unless David Bryant, Mr. Menuck or any of the others commit to their cause.

Just kidding...

Morningrise...this in my mind is a new pinnacle of achievement.  Your tournament has been noted by one of the band members.  Again, I applaud you.

Mr. Meros.  I'm thinking that you're now reading this so I've got to do a shout out.  Thank you for the wonderful music.  You guys are one of the bands (along with Dream Theater and The Flower Kings) that brought me back into progressive rock after years of listening to electronica.  Thank you for the great tunes and I'm looking forward to the day you make it back to Pittsburgh.  Loved you guys when you did 3RP, hearing "The Light" performed by the original line up was one of the highlights of my concert going career.

Once again, thanks for all the kind words Tom. I really appreciate it.

And I share all your feelings towards Mr. Dave Meros and his band. Of course this won't affect my impartiality.

If you are seeing this Mr. Meros, it would be sooooo awesome if you could come to Argentina with the Beard

Quick…someone get a hold of GY!BE. If there’s one thing I know about Canadian anarchists, it’s that they love winning contests.
