I assumed you were yanking my chain in a jocular manner and responded back in kind (we've know each-other a bit over the years, in so much as someone knows a person in such a venue which isn't that much, so I could expect a certain comfort in being able to joke around with each-othe. I had assumed you made that topic not knowing about this thread as it seemed to cover the same territory and I didn't see why it would be disadvantageous to you to move it there. More posts here to sink your teeth into. If there is a reason why you think your post would be better as a standalone topic, and if you have reasons to give on why you think I was in error, please do elaborate. I don't get the "how dare you" comment. I'm a moderator here, and I even took the time to say why I moved it. Feel free to disagree with my actions, but I see no reason to take personal offence. My take, and I will be interested to hear yours: I expect that someone would have bumped this thread as it has been active quite recently, and your topic would have vanished without much love being spread. I agree that more love should be spread, but multiple topics spreads the love thin, in a way. it's common in forums to discourage multiple threads on the same topic. it says right here in the forum guidelines http://www.progarchives.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=13082:
So how was I in error? What makes your topic sufficiently different from the other that you felt my actions shameful? And feel free to report me to admin. |

I listened to Songs for Ships and Irons here the other day, and it still is an absolute joy of a record. As much as I love Sing to God, I much prefer the early 80s albums.
Yep just trying to get the banter going again - no need for multiple threads even if these guys are somewhat overlooked outside of a few smitten fans - from all over the world no less. Just agreeing with you here Greg, you made no mistake as far as I'm concerned. Cardiacs still get some mentions here - and we all need to be mentioned once in a while.

I think El's just toying with me a bit -- we're old acquaintances. To play the fool is a bit foolish though. No worries.
Songs for Ships and Irons is great, and I just haven't given it as much time as Sing to God. Edited by Logan - April 24 2012 at 13:12 |

My attention span these days don't allow me to enjoy double albums, but maybe Cardiacs should be the remedy for that. Sing to God is, if anything, as eclectic and frantic as you can get, and I do need to jump from one end of the spectrum to the other. I just went from The Smiths - Meat is Murder to Art Zoyd - Musique Pour L'Odysee - actually much thanks to you now that I think of it. Saw your post and thought: Sean Connery, Logan, Japan, Greg, Fifty Foot Hose, Art Zoyd

Technically not Cardiacs, but presumably of interest to many fans, William D. Drake has a new song available for free download as a preview of his forthcoming album. It's a belter.
http://williamddrake.bandcamp.com/track/lawrence You can also hear a live radio session version along with a few other tracks (including a sublime rendition of an old Mr and Mrs Smith & Mr Drake song) here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p010f7pq |

I quite like the song. I loved his last album, so finally hearing news of a new one makes me excited, especially after hearing the song.

Are you sure it's to preview a forthcoming album? The page says it was recorded during the Rising of the Lights sessions, could just be a leftover track? His wordpress page also doesn't say anything about a new album.
Good track no matter what it's from, though. ![]() |

Ah, well work has definitely begun on the new album - that's been confirmed by his record label and in the interview part of the radio session I linked to. For some reason I assumed Lawrence was a single from said album. Either way, the song's out there and the album's on its way! |

Upon initial discovery I really enjoyed them. After listening for about a year I completely lost interest. Good musicians, but I find one song virtually indistinguishable from the next. They are not bad just not really a top 100 band in my book. I'll listen again at some point.

I found them after reading Conor Fynes review of "Sing to God," which got me interested. I love punk, and I love prog, and now I love the Cardiacs. |

Good call. Yes an interesting band. But I tire of listening to them after a while. I have no stamina for them. I very much enjoy them in small doses.

I tried to buy a copy of Sing To God not too long ago only to find it out of print. Downloaded it off of youtube. I'm not one for punk, but I like it. Fiery God Hand got me hooked.

That's the same for me;......at first I found them interesting but after a while they just became a bit annoying. I've tried again but alas...no luck. can anyone recommend their most accesible and least irritating cd? ![]() |
