It's a total toss up between Blade Runner and Aliens. I'll opt for Aliens though cause it has the least votes of the two.
I almost forgot, I do think the recently overlooked gem, Sunshine staring Cilian Murphy and Mark Strong deserves some cred. Also, I'm pretty sure John Carpenter's version of The Thing should be on here. It has a fantastic atmosphere of isolation and paranoia. It's on the low budget side, but it's one of the few movies that have actually scared me after the age of 20. Edited by R-A-N-M-A - October 08 2010 at 22:34 |

Either Serenity or Mystery Science Theater: The Movie. Regardless, I'm voting Other.

R.A.N.M.A mentioned "sunshine" ,excellent movie
Its interesting that so close to the sun most of the deaths were from cold and for me the most memorable scene was the transfer from one ship to the other where two of the crew had to wrap themselves in insulation against the cold of space, one didnt make it and died a lonely and sad death, flash frozen and floating through the void,to be partly shattered by hitting some debris and finally disintegrating from the intense heat of the sun after leaving the shadow of the ship.
That seen left me with a very odd creepy feeling as to the utter loneliness and hopelessness of his death.............

some of the best Sci-Fi I have seen are Star Treck - the newest movie
Minority Report - the best Cruise movie
I Robot - yes I liked it, I don't think it as bad (nor very good), but it have a cool effets and Will Smith is cool
K-Pax - Kevin Spacey rules
Space Jam -
Matrix
the War of the Worlds - have one of the most impressive sound effects and If you have a suroundsound and a sub woofer your nabour will feel it on the richter scale

thanks Slartibartfast i must admit when, Robbie the robot says, "Morbius, something is approaching from the southwest,..it is now quite close" i always think "this is not good"
I beleive there is a remake in the works,as much as i hope it will be, i also think "This is not good"

Forbidden Planet was on TV this weekend and I watched-for awhile-while it was surely ground-breaking when it first came out, it was a bit dated on this watching.
I worry that a remake will screw it all up-the original is a good story and well done for the time-why remake it? I have visions of the awful Day the Earth Stood Still remake. Leave well enough alone!

Yes, the remake of "The Day The Earth Stood Stil" was pretty bad,Keanu Reeves had none of the quiet dignity(or acting ability) of Michael Rennie. |
