Listening to Jack Bruce's recent comments on how they were rubbish I wonder if Cream would have fared better against Zeppelin? |
Cream were to short lived. But Bonham vs Ginger and Clapton vs Page would be intresting. |
Bruce said the only one in the band worth anything was dead. Ouch!

To me, there is no contest on a prog site, because Rush are a great prog band, and Led Zep are a great rock band, so I vote for Rush. If we were voting on greatest bands it would be more difficult, although as someone who has all LPs from both bands and saw LZ with Bonham and Rush in the late '70's, I think I would still vote for Rush. Led Zep were hugely influential, especially on Rushs' earlier works, but I simply cannot listen these days to the second LP of Physical Graffiti, Presence, or In Through the Out Door - I find them bland and completely in some comfort zone. Rush, in contrast, have continued to evolve and still put out interesting and challenging music, even though I think Snakes & Ladders would merit no more than a three star LP if I were reviewing it. I like these polls, though - they do lead to interesting threads!

Rush is beating Zeppelin? There has to be ballot-stuffing going on here. I demand hearings and investigations!!

Apples and oranges. Though Rush were clearly influenced by LZ in their early days, they evolved into a completely different band. I love them both, though lately I listen to Rush more than LZ, but I don't really see any point in comparing them.

Yeah, you wouldn't expect Rush to be strolling it on a PROG SITE, would ya?
Try posting the same poll on a metal/hard rock site and I bet you'd get the same result... in reverse proportion
Like so many others I like both bands - Rush has to win in the proggishness stakes, but I actually voted Zep because of the sheer coolness of the first four albums. Oh and cos I grew up with Zep and Rush came later. Personal thing as always.

It's not that I can't find worth in anything, it's just that I can't find worth in enough.

It appears that all the Rush fanboys have won out on this one.

A Rush fanboy obviously. At least they could have voted for Zappa a thousand times.

This is a very interesting poll. If you are talking greatest influence I would say Led Zep, after all Rush were influenced by them, if you are talking prog, then its Rush,
I wonder what kind of prog Rush could write now with all their experience, or do you think Prog is beneath them. Instead they write metal compositions that everyone will forget about in 10 yeatrs, whilst, the hemispheres and xanadu will live forever, just mho
