Well, listen to the songs in the middle of The Mars Volta - Bedlam in Goliath album (with the exception of the goliath song which is listenable).

I was also rather disappointed with it. It wasn't horrific, in my opinion, but I think it's DT's worst album (beating out When Dream and Day Unite). Two stars, yeah, but I don't know if I call it horrific. Just painfully mediocre in every way.

Very good point.
Another example of this was the getting together of Steve Hackett & Steve Howe; couldn't go wrong, right? Had to be a huge epic progressive rock from two of prog-rock's giants, right?

Horrifically Bad Progressive Albums.
ha ha Despite the fact that Pink Floyd was dead in early '80's , musicaly speaking, Eloy's music have a high standard in that same period. To me Eloy is among the best bands ever, and I will always choose them in a confrontation with Floyd.
