Hi, could you please briefly tell me again which two tracks are intended for the main and which one for the side category. I've lost track a little.

The three tracks I nominate are: Shamblemaths - Conglomeration (or: the Grand Pathetic Suite) Fred Frith and Hardy Fox - Who Will Release Me? (from 1:17 to 4:59 of the entire album) Lol Creme and Kevin Godley - Blint's Tune (Movements 1-17) As for separating these into the main and side categories, I do not know. I think there is a sense in which each of these are well known, but also a sense in which each of these are not well known. Edited by I prophesy disaster - April 15 2023 at 17:34 |

No, I know how to behave in the restaurant now, I don't tear at the meat with my hands. If I've become a man of the world somehow, that's not necessarily to say I'm a worldly man.

I add Irmin Schmidt & Kumo - Fledermenschen to the main poll. Sorry, I had a listen to about half of the playlist and I liked it, but couldn't find the time to write something.

The server was down last night (U.S.). In fact, I was listening to the playlist when it went down. When it was restored, it seems likely that a backup was used from earlier in the day.

Thanks for the info, George! It's always good if we can blame the system . . LoL
There's a good side to (almost) everything. Meanwhile Andy's replied to my pm. He's in as well which is great but now I will have to find a solution since the numbe of slots is limited to 25 and we now have 27 tracks. Edited by Mila-13 - April 17 2023 at 09:29 |

So now
that all the technical problems have been solved we can finally start listening
to the nominated songs. In the poll the entries of the main category/less known are written in capital letters followed by the entries of the side category/better known in the common spelling. In the playlist the two groups are separated by a video titled 'Top 10 Greatest Music Duos of All Time’ (which is of course in no way representative. lol). You can vote for 4 of your favourites in the main and for 2 in the side category. Also on a side note: We have a total of nine participants and 27 songs/tracks. Since the number of slots is limited to 25 I needed to find a solution. Therefore, I decided to refrain from participating in the side category, whereas Lorenzo’s Mina & Celentano and Cochi & Renato will share one slot. I hope he doesn't mind. I just thought that Lorenzo as the creator of the Interactive Polls would be happy to see them continue and let the other participants go first. But all of his entries will remain in the poll, The contributions mentioned are of a humorous nature and I believe that they will gladly share their slot.-Yay, we now have 9 participants, almost 10! The playlist has been added to the OP. So now enjoy and have fun! Edited by Mila-13 - April 21 2023 at 10:51 |

Thanks, Mila. I'm sorry that you had to put this up a second time despite any silver-lining.
There were a number that I really loved this time, and some more that I would have liked to give a vote to, but if I mention those others, then I feel bad about not mentioning all of the nominated choices. My Main Category Top Four: Irmin Schmidt & Kumo - Fledermenschen Teho Teardo & Blixa Bargeld - A Quiet Life Nils Frahm & Anne Müller - Because This Must Be / Augmentation Hauschka with Kai Angermann - Brighton One My Side Category Top Two: Trent Reznor & Atticus Ros - Juno Ed & Denyse Alleyne - Fly Before Dawn Edited by Logan - April 17 2023 at 13:29 |

This poll was actually designed for a smaller number of participants. Changing the concept afterwards would have taken too much time, though. But now we are spoiled for choice. So after lengthy consideration I decided to vote as follows:
Main Category Zeena Parkins & Ikue Mori: Jezebel The
experimental element of electronic music blends beautifully with the soft
melodious sounds of the harp. It is a sound world rich in detail and almost
mystical forms of beauty. So, this is what experimental avant-garde music can
also sound like! Nils Frahm & Agnes Müller: Because This Must Be/Augmentation Here
we have an interesting and well-done combination of modern classical music and
electronica. The sound of Anne Müller's cello gives this experimental piece a
certain warmth that no other instrument can do. Squackett: Sea of Smiles A
project involving Genesis guitar virtuoso Steve Hackett and Yes icon Chris
Squire is a true find for me. This album goes straight away onto my wish list! Ninja
Sex Party: The Mystic Crystal These guys are both great comedians and musicians and they are also highly
productive as I could see, so there is a lot to be discovered. Side Category. Here I will go for two longstanding and brilliant duo acts: Air & Yazoo. __________________________________________________________ I hope that you guys will find the time to listen to this great playlist and at best to vote at some point. OK, let's see... much to listen to, but very rewarding. Vote one: The Mark & Clark Band. I've never heard of them but I love how Cardiacs this is, before Cardiacs and with none of their members involved. Very curious whether Tim Smith knew this. Great stuff. Vote two: Hauschka & Kai Angermann. Great swinging track, pretty predictable that I like this kind of thing of course. I know some Hauschka but hadn't come across this one. One of the best. Vote three: Godley & Creme. I don't normally vote for things I know already, but I have this album and haven't played it often (it hard to listen to from the beginning to the end as it has some rather annoying stuff thrown in) - it just wasn't on my radar how good this one is any more. Thanks for reminding me. Stunning composition! (Frahm & Mueller and Teardo & Bargeld tracks are much appreciated but too well known here so no vote.) Vote four goes to the very dark and atmospheric Cedric Victor & Jarboe track. I love Boards of Canada but didn't warm quickly enough to this particular track. Hard to not vote for something one of my music superheroes Fred Frith is involved in and I have no better reason than not supporting a 26 minutes entry in such a poll. High workload made it hard to get through this and with several tracks with more than 10 minutes I needed several runs to get through the list. At least no time pressure this time. But maybe keep it a bit shorter anyway. Lobo Marino would've been another candidate for a vote, and it is a testimony to the quality of this that I didn't consider Squire/Hackett and Anderson/Stolt voteworthy even though this is quality material, too. Sorry Lorenzo, the Italians were not my cup of tea this time. Kudos to Ninja Sex Party who made it big fun to follow their story (actually Mina/Celentano's fun factor wasn't bad either). In the well known department I'm tempted to be super inconsistent and vote for Shamblemaths as this is spectacularly gorgeous, but I know it already and then it's another 28 minutes monster, so Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross will pick up another rather predictable vote from me, even though this Buggles track is surprisingly good (I had the album on tape in the eighties but had mostly forgotten about it in the meantime).

^ Thank you for your comments, Christian! I expected you to know the German artists of course. I am therefore even more pleased about your positive feedback!
As for the long duration of the poll, I had a few technical difficulties. My plan was to put up the poll on the penultimate Sunday around noon so at least a few of us could start listening to the playlist. On the other hand my concept was inteded for a smaller number of participants so that the listenilng time became quite long. I wanted to make as few restrictions as possible in order to have a minimum number of participants (no time pressure, no exclusion of prog and no duration limit of the entries). The outcome is not bad but maybe a few more guidelilnes may be useful after all. Any advice is welcome! Edited by Mila-13 - April 24 2023 at 11:22 |

Thanks.
Actually, it was not my intention to submit the entire album, just the second track. But there was no YouTube video of just the second track. It's one of the limitations of these polls that we can't always get videos of precisely what we want. |

Not to detract from this poll, but it's been quite some time since I did an Interactive Poll and I want to put one up tonight. I see no issue with a nomination process overlapping with a voting process, and I don't think that it should detract or distract from this poll. While I think it has been good to have a much slower pace in these Interactive Polls and to have a break, there is something to be said for momentum and having time expectations and looking forward to the next one even while enjoying the current one. I think this poll worked out well, no complaints from me. I kept up with the listening, so I was ready to go, just had to give another listen to some that stood out for me. Mind you, I did not comment much on the choices as that just has lead me to some misguided attempts at humour in the past. |

Finally got to another run-through of this wonderful playlist, but it didn't really help. But since I won't get to another listen (since it is quite long) I will get to my votes now... For the main category: First, and my preferred one: Hauschka & Kai Angermann. Second, Phantom Orchard Third,Cedric Victor & Jarboe Fourth, Anderson/Stolt (whished Yes would still make music like this...) And for the "famous" ones: Yazoo followed by Trent Reznor & Atticus Ross. Nice listen overall. Unfortunately I didn't have the time to comment on all or even few. |

Much enjoyed the nomination action and a fine playlist they made. Thanks Mila for putting this one together.
No comments,so straight to votes, in order of appearance: Cedric Victor and Jarboe - Summoning Tigers in Dark Eden Irmin Schmidt and Kumo - Fledermenschen 1 Fred Frith and Hardy Fox - Who Will Release Me? Hauschka with Kai Angermann - Brighton One For the side poll: Air - Sex Born Poison Yazoo - Nobody's Diary And like Christian, I had that Buggles album on cassette many years ago. In fact, I had it before hearing Yes's Drama and was surprised to hear "Into the Lens" as the Yessified version of "I Am a Camera", not realizing the Buggles had joined Yes. |
