Less heavy than Vanden Plas, much more melodic. A bit more theatrical as well.

Ayreon is same applied formula over and over and also the more it got applied, the worse and less interesting and less entertaining it got. Just my opinion. I never minded Avantasia... it is what it is, some of it is a bit samey, some of it is very good indeed... but I think I could apply your above opinion to this as well... it seemed to get less interesting with each album?
