Prog in unexpected public places.

I mean, they are professional musicians, they may know a lot of stuff. Why not Gentle Giant or even things like Magma or Henry Cow? Also of course Zappa more likely than not. By the way, to somebody socialised on completely different things, much of Yes can be quite crazy at first contact. Kiedis is born in 62 though; prog should've been almost mainstream in his childhood/youth. Maybe he says "crazy" half-ironically because he thinks some of the younger generation would see it like that.

Primus would be a contemporary or arguably a follower as they were part of the Bay Area funk-rock-metal scene from the late 80's. RHCP being an influence on that scene.

I've read Frusciante referring to Yes. Zappa, KC as influences.

Just before I went up to visit my dad for the superbowl I stopped in at this record store I know of (they sell mostly cds but vinyl also). I was only in there for about a minute when I overheard the store clerk mention to someone something about Van Der Graaf Generator (it sounded like he said blah blah blah this obscure band called Van Der Graaf Generator). Just to make sure I wasn't hearing things I asked him about it and sure enough he did mention them to someone although I never found out the context. We talked briefly about prog. I asked him if he knew of any modern prog bands and the only one he mentioned was Liquid Tension Experiment although he did seem to know Porcupine Tree (and Steven Wilson) and Opeth. I actually saw a VDGG cd there and bought it (among other non prog stuff).

^Maybe you don't watch much tv, but Queen has been flooding tv commercials for the past six years (at least). I especially noticed it after the movie Bohemian Rhapsody. If I were to guess I would say at least ten Queen songs were in at least ten different commercials.

The golden Adam Warlock of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 loves Adrian Belew and King Crimson!

Very probably just a coincidence, but there is a little known Avant-Prog/ jazz-rock band called SOT from Norway and they have a track I like that was released as a single called "Soma Forms" in 2020 which features the tuba. It might have been because I was listening to it so recently, but I was in a public restroom and it sounded like someone was playing the tuba in one of the stalls (stranger things have happened). This tuba, if it was a tuba (surely it wasn't a french horn) sounded very much like the tuba in "Soma Forms" from about the 1:12 to 1:50 mark and then again at about the 3:05 mark.



If not a rendition of that, it still seems an eerie coincidence. I guess it was more like snippets of the tuba bits, really, but very reminiscent. It’s hard to tell, however, because he played very loose and sloppy, hit some sour notes and a really bum note at the end.

There's a place called Dürüm Theater in Eskişehir/Turkey. Dürüm means wrap (food). Well, kinda "cheap" humour for me.
