SOFT MACHINE Third
Review (Permanent link) by ian carr @ 4:23:03 PM EST, 12/1/2003 ![]() some berate their later offerings as noodle-centric... but, jesus, with all the over the top Burroughs/Pynchon references, i barely have room in my toilet for more. listen to the later released and much more daring recordings by Styx and Kansas. IC This review is absolute crap. It doesn't say anything about the music, and still says STYX is more daring...give me a break. The strange thing is it's written by someone named Ian Carr, obviously not the real one!!! I don't think Mr. Carr justifies his review whatsoever.

It's quite funny... and it does say a lot about how the album (and specifically this album) affects the reviewer... |

It is kind of funny, I'll agree to that (funnier that "ian carr" wrote
it), but I still think it's an awful review. I don't mind a one star
review for the album (although it deserves five IMO

I'll have a think about that one. (The fact that he considers Styx to be more daring is fine, that's just one man's opinion).

This is under my reviews profile and on the home page. I didn't write or submit it or even have the album! Edit: I see what happened. I was wondering where that came from, Bob. ![]() Edited by stonebeard |

Yes, you're exactly right, I didn't mean to sound so harsh in my statements about his personal opinion. |

"Relayer" is an excellent Yes album, although initially it didn't attract my attention but when hearing the spectacular song "The Gates of Delirium" I was suprised and marvelled with this jewel that Yes gifted to the Progressive Rock. Another factor that I liked much was the insertion of Patrick Moraz who gave a new breath to the band when compared to previous releases "Fragile", "Close to the Edge" and "Tales from Topographic Oceans" and he also added a style more jazzy but never leaving the roots of my favorite band. Another thing that pleased me was that they kept a bit of "Yessongs" (talking about sound, not the music), it means, the sound is the same and satisfied me enough. I personally find this album by far the best 1974 release. 5 stars: essential, a masterpiece of progressive music. Also hear previous Yes' albums, specially "Yessongs" that comprises the best Yes songs until then, completing with "TFTO", "Relayer" and "Going for the One" to have the best of Yes (without purchasing a recompilation where appear songs from "90125" album).

Gosh... like the forum is in English how can I talk about the CD? Well, I hope someone who reads me may understand. We are behind a good album... not comparable to previous although certainly with quality... The CD core are the melodic voices contrasting with the guttural ones and the guitars that I imagine to be barytones with more heavy tunes in detriment of instrumental musicianship as heard in the first CD (now I understand why David Readman left the band). Nevertheless, a good CD. They are like Symphony X in a Dark Metal version... more boring (?)! hehe... See you and if not.... (???) My opinion: keep the rating and forget this review!
