The more I listen to older DT the less I like BC&SL. It's got some good moments but... wow... so formulaic and lack luster

The MORE you listen to it!?
Well you beat me.

Train of Thought was my 3rd favorite DT album, but it's been overtaken by Black Clouds.

@Mike: Are you in the school of "Dream Theater fans who want Kevin Moore back"? Tongue

Although, part of the reason I enjoy some of the moments from heavy/later DT so much might be because I enjoy lots of extreme metal. And I think Train of Thought would be an album that would fit well in this site's Tech/Extreme category.

Yes that is true.

does no one else find the majority of BC&SL to be lifeless? The material is there but the energy most certainly isn't. Even listening to Systematic Chaos they were way better off

I love the first disc of 6 Degrees to death (I think Petrucci had some of his best guitar playing ever in Glass Prison for example), but the second disc bores me unless I'm in the mood for it. Although I suspect that's because of my personal taste. Still a good 4 star album though.

Oh, and Mike, have you heard anything by The Dear Hunter yet? I had them recommended to me by a friend of mine a few months back, and they just had a new album come out that might be one of my favorites from this year so far.

even if you don't like the 46-minute long suite you have to admit that it's an ambitious concept and they executed it perfectly with an intense amount of emotion.

Plus A Nightmare To Remember erks me because I've had a couple of friends who died in car crashes

The End is Begun is an album I've listened to more than a normal human being should have. I can't wait for the 2 new ones they're coming out with later this year. Big smile

If you haven't heard The Lake and the River yet (it's on their PA page), do so. If you don't like that song, you have no soul. Big smile
