yeah...  coming up on my 1 year anniversary of falling off that particular wagon (had been 20 years)...  I blamed Ut Gret for that night.. and perhaps a bit too much to drink on my own part LOL but I really can't indulge that activity with my job. It is dangerous enough as it is, and one test... you are gone... zero tolerance and it really should be that way. Last thing I need to worry about is some stoned kid turning on a 1600Amp gear when I'm still inside it....

Yeah there are some occupations that you need to avoid if you like to torch big time.

On the cigs, my one friend could not understand why I had to quit drinking and geefing when I gave up the smokes.  He didn't understand that for the smoker, those things just enhance the sh*t out of the cigs.  They are foreplay.  The pleasure ratio for the cig goes through the roof when you're high or even having some beers.  Finally got the point where I could drink again without running for the store for smokes.  But I can't touch any pot or I'd be smoking Camel straights in 5 mins.

Clap

I have/had 3 distinct views on the 3 myself.

I enjoyed pot when I was younger. I was extremely shy and it did help me loosen up in crowds or especially when on the prowl.  I quit when I got married.. my ex drank like a fish much as I did but the one thing she did hold onto with her Mormon upbringing was drugs were a big no-no.  I really had no problem dropping it.

It was a social crutch for me..  and actually had no problem quitting.

I had a very bad drinking problem in my middle 20's. I went through J.D by the case. I finally got myself into AA and though I never quit. I learned to drink in moderation and only on special occasions do I go harder than beer.

cigarettes?  sh*t... the day I retire perhaps. They are my true crutch.  My job is incredibly stressful and I use them as mental resets where I can compose myself and think. One reason vaping failed... even patches would. It is not the damn nicotine.. it is more a mental addiction than a physical one.

My friend's doctor told her that the physical addiction to nicotine is over in two to three days.
From that point on it is all mental.

I hear ya.  I was over the physical Nic thing quite early.  Yet the siren song of the pure pleasure of firing one up with friends is always something I have to battle.

My old mechanic once said......"there's no such thing as a non-smoker, once you start.  there are only smokers who have gone X number of years without a Cig.  eventually, they'll hit again.

Basically, you can pretend you've "quit" and could never relapse but it happens every day to lots of people, for different reasons.  The best thing to do for you  younger folks is never to light one.
