The italian Rock was surely a Very.. Very Great Surprise for me.... I didn't knew it... Better than that, the Italian groups are still On the Move! I do not still understand so well. Why the most of them are still unknown in Europe.... Maybe the Music isn't "Commercial"... type... Wonderfull... Thank You "man" ..... Your Friend!

In this moment I am aprreciatting: IL VOLO - "Essere o non Essere" - This CD is from 1975, but the music is completely up-to-date. I can say that all the Bands and their music from Italian Rock are good music! Curiously they do not have commercial market. It is very difficult even impossible to find Italian Groups here in Portugal. My best are: 1- Nouva Era 2 -Picchio del Pozzo 3- Abiogenesi and then: Mangala Vallis Montefeltro Banco dell Mutuo Soccorzo Best regards,

Same thing here in Italy reached with the contemporaries Prog groups.
Not to mention the South American or east europe bands!
Fortune that I live 1 3/4 hours from Nova Gorica (Slovenia) and something Prog Former Yu can find it...!

Hi friends,
I have to inform you that, unfortunately, I will be off the forum for at least a week. The last months have been very peculiar also and my contribution has become very sparse and weak in respect of what I was used to.
Let's see very soon, though, because I have so many new surprises and new pucrhase ti discuss.
P.S. Linus, I see we share a similar passion for Strawbs and italian prog: very interesting blend, indeed!

No problem, my friend.
Even in my case there were so many changes... And all at once... Meanwhile the work... then other interests... I did not left the R.P.I. but... I try new experiences... New horizons in Prog... In short, try not to stop to Italian Prog.
I discovered the former YU Prog and music... And rediscovered other groups... Not only Prog...
There can be surprised with some thread on the request for inclusion of some bands (with reviews and links)... Already I'm expanding my reviews to other worlds of Prog...
It is clear that not ever give up the R.P.I. but I changed my approach against him, this is clear.

Just like the RPI bands, Strawbs play a very heartfelt kind of music, even if they're far apart. Guess that's part of the explanation. Sad that you're leaving us for a while. It's always enjoying to read your reviews, whatever the genre.

In italy Strawbs is represented by Nuova Compagnia Di Canto Popolare... Strange (with my hell disappoint) but not accepted in PA!

^ Ah, you've found Banco...one of my favorites without even owning a full album/cd Io Sono Nato Libero is sometimes forgotten behind Darwin! and the strong debut, but IMO it's at least as good. "Canto nomade..." and Non mi Rompete are about as good as it gets.

Yup, if the other records match Io Sono Nato Libero, Banco might just push PFM from the nr.1 spot. But it'll be a tough fight.

^ It sure is a close call; when you're able to hear the more forgotten albums from the mid-late '70s from both bands you may realize how good they were at changing their sound (of course, you might hate them too). Ones like Jet Lag, Garofondo Rosso, Canto di Primavera....PFM even did a live folk album with Fabrizio di Andre, a very respected singer at the time in Italy.

I've already covered Jet Lag. Actually, I quite liked it. Gave it three strong stars, even if it's almost a different band.

*Just keeping the thread on the first page*
Which album(s) can you recommend after the three classics by PFM?

^ If you want to stay with PFM, Chocolate Kings is a "classic album" IMO, not quite as good as L'Isola, but really close and their live album from the American tour is excellent...both of these have English vocals though, and some people have trouble with that, especially Lanzetti on CK. Personally I have no problem with them, but just so you're aware...
Oh, and their most recent - "Stati di immaginazione" from 2006 is good; I didin't think it quite lived up to the hype, but it's relaxing and enjoyable nonetheless (you can test out the samples in PA).
Cheers

Chocolate Kings and L'Isola - same style, musically?
Not a big fan of Lanzetti, but it isn't that much of a nuisance.
