These guys have a few flawless albums, but in my opinion possibly unconventional opinion, I found myself even more awestruck with Io sono nato libero.  Darwin made my top 200, just barely.  Io sono made my top 40, and is currently my top symphonic prog album.  I even consider these guys better than Yes and Genesis, and maybe Floyd depending on when I get to re-evaluating Piper.

The major difference between the two is one edge: ISNL had all of the strengths of Darwin, but there are increased classical and even folk elements on ISNL that improved on the already brilliant melodies.

Di Terra is probably my favorite by them but haven't heard it in a very long time and don't currerntly own it. I'm not sure which of the first three I like the most. I need to listen to io sono again but there are some pretty great moments on it for sure. Darwin has some great moments too as does the debut. I'll have to pull io sono out again and pay closer attention this time and try to focus on those qualities you mentioned.

I'm pretty sure this is the same concert that got them in serious trouble from the Catholic church for stuffing 6,000 people in a venue that only had 3,000 as its capacity. They were banned from ever playing in cathedrals again after that.
