Currently I'm archiving a bunch of music I only have on CDR, taking it off my shelf, converting to mp3 files and storing them on data DVDs if they're things I rarely (or never) listen to.  Just trying to maximize shelf and disk space.  For the LPs, it's more a matter of filing them away with the collection (listening to them first, if possible), since I have about 30 new ones I haven't put away yet.  It's not hard work, but it does take time, and it's nice when I can block off a few hours on the weekend for that kind of thing.  Plus I get to listen to my records while I do it.  Right now it's "The Missing Piece" by Gentle Giant, one of my newest vinyl acquisitions.

The Missing Piece is a really great album, and given a lot of undeserved hatred. How are you enjoying Illusions On A Double Dimple and Vincebus Eruptum?

What kind of bass guitar do you own?

My dad called me while I was hanging out shopping at the CD store and told me that while he was doing his daily reading of the obituaries he came acrossed one of my childhood friends.  He died last Thursday and the funeral is tomorrow.  I probably haven't seen him in over 25 years.  We went to elementary school together and we played on the same little league baseball team from the ages of 5 to 12.  I stayed in the public school system, but he went to Catholic school following elementary school, and we pretty much lost touch after that.  My parents lived in the same area as his parents in Florida and my mom used to get haircuts from his mom, so I would hear news bits here and there but that is pretty much the extent of any connection I have had with him in the past 25 years.  Even so, I feel like I was just punched in the gut.
